they are totally different.

but if i had a choice (and enough$$) i'd get the savvy.
BUT the savvy costs twice as much (2 battery's BIG ESC etc)
the slash is light, pretty nimble but the 2wd is a real let down after a while

go look up the E-revo.
loads of hop ups avaliable and prolly in the price range you're after too[&:]

Which Savage? Nitro or Electric

Since you are only 13, I would suggest the Slash............

LOL..

I bought my origional E-maxx when I was eight. My friend is 14, and he has the Jato/T-maxx. I'm 14, and I have had a brushless Warhead, brushless Raze, brushless Stampede, brushless bandit, brushless Rustler, Rc10t4.

I say, if you have the money for the NITRO savage, get it. the electric one, not so much. i would go with the vxl models.

HANDS DOWN SLASH ALL THE WAY!!!!! You don't need the trouble of Nitro.....too much fiddling and tuning and tuning and more tuning, temps, and on and on....pick a batt and RIDE!!!

And since you are new to driving DO NOT GET VXL!!!

I think he would have a really hard time learning to drive when he's going 70+ MPH

Not saying he can't just to tempting to go fast and I think driving skills should come before speed skills.

I would like to see him go 70+ mph..

First off, the Vxl only goes 70+ with a 3s lipo, which isn't exactly cheap.

Second, that's only when you gear up high, stock gearing couldn't hit that.

Three, there is a training mode solely for that purpose. Even though I doubt that he would be in training mode for long (HEHE)

My son who is now 15 had an E-Maxx at 7 and then at 8 a T-Maxx. When he turned 10 he got a Jato. Now my 7yr old had a Mini-T when he was 5 and now he has a Sidwinder-Pede...........................

I think if someone is new to the hobby and still under 13 or so they should start with the electrics that away they don't get discouraged when things don't go right with the nitros.

And from what you said all of yours are electrics even though some od them started life as nitros........... So why did you give up on nitros????

You said no VXL because it was too fast. I'm saying that the VXL can go from 30-70mph. Perfect for a long-term R/C.

It's a Sidewinder system in a Firestorm, which is a brilliant chassis that strikes a balance between durability, performance and agility that isn't really matched by anything else. The Rustler/Stampede/Slash are a brick compared to it, and the Losi/AE race trucks are made of matchsticks compared to it.

It has a 5600kv brushless motor as stock, full metal tranny, is all adjustable etc. It can only take 2s as stock due to the 5600kv motor, if you were to swap a vxl or a 4600 cms motor into it it would run 3s lipo.

What are you basing your conclusion that the slosh is so great? What vehicles have you owned? The slash is more scale than anything. The suspension and chassis are lacking in the performance department.

A nitro at 13? Why not, I got a nitro at 13 and it was a good learning experience.

Rain or snow? Bet you haven't owned a nitro. They're actually alot easier to waterproof. Throw some silicone on the joints of the radio boxes and you're good.

No vxl? Why not again. The vxl is pretty mild on 6-7 cells. There's something called radio adjustments and esc programming if it is too powerful.

I would strongly second the e-firestorm. I have owned quite a few trucks and my brushless firestorm is my favorite so far. Very durable and handles good at the same time.

Yeah the E-firestorm is good but stadium trucks don't really catch my attention, I like trucks and buggies
and my uncle said that if I got a nitro he would help me break in the engine and tune it.

Check out tamiya's line of trucks and 4wd buggies. They have a great, affordable selection and you can add your own electronics. Don't be scared away from a kit, they are pretty easy to assemble and with help from us at rcu we could work you through any problems.

I can't seem to find any that aren't discontinued.

Pretty sure it costs about $305. A little over budget, but worth it.
Features? It's not waterproof or anything, but it's a great truck. It's as strong as a Rustler, and supposedly has great handling. Plus, it's brushless RTR.
