I picked up a 5th wheel trailer, in the winter time put it at my favroite spot for the summer (small hidden lake) here in ontario, i have a 1/2 acre of rocks and stones, the trailer sits up on a rock face theres splenty of dirt and trails around as well. my problem is id like a tamiya 3 speed but they all seem really expensive 500+$ is there anything else out there for cheaper that would make a nice crawler/trail truck?, i dont want just a desinated crawler tho,

hmm
a cheap one that might work would be a Traxxas stampede for $180 USD
A E-Savage would be better seeing its 4wd or an HPI wheely king(has a solid axel). Both are under $400

If your doing rock climbing I wouldn't recommend sensorless brushless motors like the VXL I linked above, seeing they cog(stutter) at low speeds. The 3 before the VXL are brushed and should do rock climbing fine though.
I think Tamiya has some but sadly I'm not very familiar with their product line in 4WD trucks that could potentially rock crawl.

SCX10. I have the Honcho Trail Ready (rtr) and upgraded it to 4-link using Traxxas E-maxx links and rod ends.
Pretty good for a 4x4 trail rig. It can do some rock crawling too if you come across in that tough stuff. I think compared to the CC-01 (from what I have seen) it's infinitely more capable off-road due to its more modern front and rear solid axle suspension and articulation, as compared to the CC-01's IFS setup and more old school transmission setup.
Now I'll fess up and admit I don't OWN a CC-01 but I am sure just from the way it's setup/designed, the SCX-10 would just be more upgradable and flexible for whatever you could want to do with it.

i'd save the cash and go with a Tamiya 3 speed, although some of these trucks are nice, they just dont match the scale-ness of a Tamiya [8D]
and you'd be surprised what they can pull! [X(]

hpi crawler king, not a full blown crawler but it can still crawl but nothing comp worthy, and they're cheaper than a comp rig

scx10, with a tamiya 3 speed body (350,tundra,hilux) will leave a hi-lift for dead on the rocks and look just as good doing it.
Must say scx10 with a cherokee body is pretty sweet too
edit I own an cc-01 and an ax10, cc-01's are fairly capable if you like to tinker.

I agree with positron, the SCX10 is the way to go for a decently priced trail truck. You can always upgrade parts later.
Also check out RC4WD.com if you're into trail trucks. Their stuff is expensive but worth looking at.
