Default My Losi XXX-S Sport must go faster!! PLEASE HELP!!

I had some questions concerning the spur and pinion gears in my Losi XXX-S Sport that I had purchased a few years ago. I was wanting to make it faster so I bought a faster motor but I heard some where that changing the spur and pinion gears will also help. My problem is I dont know for one to go with a spur with less or more teeth and second what pinion gear I would need to match up with that spur. I currently have a 88T 48P Spur and the pinion im using has the number 24 stamped on it so Im guessing that means 24 teeth. I currently have a 15T double Venom Fireball motor but Im looking at getting a 9T Double Trinity Cobalt 2 motor for it. So any help with the spur and pinion gears would be much appreciated and any help as far as picking out a faster motor would alsdo help. Ive had this car since 2002 But Im still sort of a novice with it when it comes to that part of it. So any help would be appreciated.

Putting on a larger pinion or smaller spur will make it go faster.

To calculate your gear ratio simply use this formula. Spur gear/Pinion*transmission ration. For example, 105t spur/25t pinion=4.2*transmission ratio. If you don't know the transmission ration that is ok, just remember the lower the number for the spur/pinion, the higher top speed. Just make sure you keep the spur and pinion the same pitch. The most common are standard 48p and 64p.

Will your new motor be too hard on the stock ESC ??? or did you upgrade that too? I run a 19turn Money Motor in my xxx-s, but i also upgraded the esc too a Novak GTS

I run a duratrax intelispeed 8T ESC so it should be able to handle a 9T motor I hope. If not im complaining to duratrax. So mkoresh12 ur saying that the less teeth the spur has the faster my car will run. I thought it was the other way around. So should I get a 86T or 90T spur and what pinion will I need to go with it. Again thank you for the help. I figured people would just laugh at me for having a Losi XXX-S. Its actually nice to see other people have one too. Makes me feel a little better bout having it. When I get around to it I will upload some photos of my car so u can see it.

If you used the same pinion yes. Usually you pick what spur you want to run then get a variety of pinions, not the other way around. First thing to do is to see what spur will fit your car(they have different diameters). I don't have that model so I don't know what will work best for you. I usually make my spur decision based on how many differnt ratios I can get out of it. I don't know how the xxx-s is arranged but some chassis are limited due to the motor mount. Spurs are typically not that expensive nor are pinions, buy a couple and experiment. Just make sure to monitor engine temp so you don't burn anything up.

Ok thank u for that. Now.... I know where I can get spurs at but I dont know a good preferrably cheap place to get pinions. Here is the site that sells all the parts (Hop up and stock) for my XXX-S. http://www.losipartshouse.com/servlet/StoreFront . But I didnt see any pinions there. Ok im still sort of novice at this picture code thing so I hope this works. Here is a pic of my XXX-S chassis and spur so u know what im talkin bout. The chassis is all graphite. I dont know exactly how much lighter it is than the stock plastic one but its supposed to be lighter. Theres one bad part about it tho. Its more brittle than the plastic one. I broke one of my A arms or whatever theyre called just by someone sideswiping me in a race. Other than that its ben a good little car tho. Heres a picture of my car and one of the nitro cars I ran against and took second out of 5 cars. 3 of wich were nitros. The supra is my Losi and the Cuda is the nitro. I dont remember what kind of car it was but it was pretty good. He was having some issues with it that day.

Well, it looks like you'd have to stick to a xxx-s specific spur due to the fact that the drive pulley is part of it. I could be wrong since I don't have one. Once you decide on 48 or 64p you can get your pinions from Tower hobbies or your local hobby store if you have one. Just make sure its the same pitch and your all set. I went with 48p on my car because the local hobby store doesn't carry much for 64p. But it my be the opposite for you.
