Well... What do you want to do with it? Just bomb around empty parking lots or get into practicing on carpet road courses leading to road racing? Or oval.

Def get something 1/10 or bigger. and if your gonna spend that much you mit as well get a kit. HPI Sprint 2 Drift Car is pretty fun to bomb around a parking lot with. then get the Novak Havoc brushless system. all of will be less than 300 bucks. Then if you neeed a battery and charger go Duratrax and save some money. their onyx chargers are the best for the price. and depending what kind of batery (LiPo or MiMH) you'll spend about another 100-150.
HPI Drift +$139.99
Havoc system +$139.99
duratrax LiPo4700 +$74.99 or NiMH 3000mAh +$27.99
Onyx 230 +$79.99 or Onyx 200 +$39.99
total LiPo $434.96 Total NiMH $347.96

Goto your hobby store and see what they stock the most of them stock Traxxas(noob friendly) Team Associated (more racer friendly)
Losi (very racer friendly) So go there see what they got and just ask around.

Oh. I figured The whole world was 2.4ghz by now. If you sell all your stock radios you'll be able to get a nice one. Once you Spectrum you never go back. Hell you dont even look back. and most good radios come with two Rx's now a days. I've got like 4 or 5 stock radios kickin around my place. I'd give you one but i dont think you'd want to drive that far. Well it also sounds like your a take it out the box and run it guy as well. Im more of a kit guy myself. Its like chevy and ford. Some people like chevy's and some people like fords. Neither one is better or worse, its all preference. But that losi is pretty sweet. let me know What you decide.
