Default RE: reducing nitro %

i have been mixing my own nitro for some months. but its not as easy 8 oz of one and 8 oz of the other does NOT =50%. thats because of the size of the molecules. a hydrometer is the only way to know what % you have. cause the fuel you are starting out with is mostly methanol, get a plastic jar from the store, dole has 24 oz jars with oranges ect. the top bulge is 18 oz. then find a scale weight it, then calculate 15% add that much methanol. this will NOT be real accurate, but should be close. please dont jump on me about it not being accurate, i know is not. just be careful. NOTE: a methanol fire can not be seen in day light, but water will put the fire out.

The simple laymans way:

1qt '0nitro-glow' + 3qt '20nitro-glow' = 1gal 15 nitro glow

Assuming both fuels start with oil content you wouldnt mind flying,
then the mix will result with oil somewhere between the two starting numbers, which would be fine.
If either fuel has an oil content you would not be happy flying,
then post all the oil numbers you have and we can evaluate where you stand

Default RE: reducing nitro %

1qt (0Nitro-20oil) + 3qt (20nitro-18oil) = 1gal 15nitro 18.5oil

if you just add 2oz oil to the gallon when done, you get
'A Lil Over' 1gal 14.77nitro and 20.06oil

Now, considering what you will use to measure the mixing,
we can forget any of them decimal deviations and say its about 15nitro and about 20oil if you add about 2oz oil at the end

Default RE: reducing nitro %

Mdilution*Vdilution = Mstock*Vstock

For our purposes:

%final * Volume Final = %original * Volume original

%final = %original * Volume original / Volume Final

OK so:

1 gallon of 15%nito diluted to 3 gallons is what final percent nitro?

15 * 1 / 3 = 5%
