RE: 'PROJECT' Quarterscale Pro Street Beretta
Thanks!
Well i received one set of my new gears today... The other two sets are still on back order.... Anyway... These things are just plain AWESOME!!!
I can't believe the quality of them.... Very nice.... As you will notice in these shots of them they are larger than them gears i had in the rear end... I took this into consideration when i designed this rear end & third member as well.... Al i will need to do to make these work is machine a aluminum adapter plate that mounts from the third member to the base plate... NO BIGGIE!!! You may also notice they are a right angle cut gear... As the ones that where in it are left angle cut gears. Thats why it ran more smoothly in reverse... Go figure I'll be doing some test videos on them soon..

Well i now have the wheelie Bars built and tack welded.... I will be working on getting these new gears installed next... Then close up the axle ends on the rear end then perform a few test videos on it... In the hopes of no leaks...lol... Then if all goes as planed i will start building the front suspension components....Anyhow... Here are a few various shots of the new wheelie bars in progress build...

RE: 'PROJECT' Quarterscale Pro Street Beretta
Well i got my shims for the rear end... BUT!! They sent me the wrong ones so i am now waiting on the correct ones once again... I now have the housing ends done and welded in... Will be building the caliper support brackets next... I spoke with John Foster from Quarter Mortar and have decided to run his hydraulic brakes all around.... I'm going to setup the front brakes as a line lock system for burn outs... The rears will operate off the throttle servo as most do... Once i get my new correct shims i will get back on the gears in this thing... I will need to build a new rear pinion support for these gears to align properly.. The support will be welded inside of the rear of the housing... It will also double as a axle stop... I'm going to run a bearing type block with a clamp collar on either side to eliminate the axle from moving from side to side.... The support block will have a bearing placed on the top of it with a welded retainer around it to support the pinion.... Talk about killing two birds with one stone... I am also working on the front end suspension and should have the upper strut brackets built here soon.... I am also working on building the radiator support brackets and will have them done within a few weeks or so... I spoke with customer service at DEVECCHIO FOUNDRY about my order on two Blown V8s and i guess they ran into some issues and it will be a couple months before i get them... Bummer !! I wanted to get started on the machining on them this winter... Guess not.... Anyhow... Guys i just wanted touch base with you on the build... Here is a few various shots of the housing ends and radiator...

Well I'm a still waiting on my correct shims for the rear end... go figure!! Once i get them i will get back to the rear end and get her in order... I now have the radiator brackets built and tack welded in... I had to put the radiator on an angle do to hood clearance issues... I build the brackets so they can rotate to any angle needed. I will need to purchase two 90* elbows and attach them together to run the lower radiator hose... The chassis frame rail sits right in front of the inlet... Other than that I'm good to goooooooooo.... I'm going to build the strut towers next... Then the spindles... and so on...
Here are a few various shots of the radiator brackets !!

RE: 'PROJECT' Quarterscale Pro Street Beretta
Well i now have the struts built and the upper strut bracket... I also welded in a fill/drain on them.. I'm going to use silicone fork oil... Still need to test them for leaks...I am currently building the lower control arm mounts & arms... Once i get them built and all bolted in i will then make the upper/lower spring retainers... They have a 1 1/2'' travel... Not much... But I'm not planing on racing it.... And i doubt it will pull the front end off the ground on a launch... If so and i need a stiffer spring then i will install one...lol.lol.
Anyhow here a few various shots of them and what they currently look like...

Every time you paste more pics mate, i spend ages studying each image to see what you`ve done and how you`ve done it.
Your technique and your talent are damned impressive.
You`ve earned a big thumbs up from me mate![sm=thumbs_up.gif][sm=49_49.gif]

RE: 'PROJECT' Quarterscale Pro Street Beretta
Thanks guys... It's very obvious that those of you that has done fabricating know just how much work is involved can understand where I'm coming from here... I got a feeling this thread is going to be quite active once the chassis/body is done and painted... You guys are going to be blown away when you see the interior this beast is going to have... I'm working with a guy that's making me digital gauges... Tachometer / Water temp / Voltage / Blower boost... It should look very futuristic when done!
I haven't had a chance to go into detail on the Beretta build yet... But as many of you know... I cut no corners when i set out to build something. The Beretta is going to be one of a kind... All my servos are going to be hidden... The majority of them will be mounted on a shelf hidden behind the dash.. and the rest will be in the trunk... I'm building this thing to look as realistic as possible and surely don't want any servos to be visible...
I now have the strut control arms done and i am currently building the chassis brackets for them... I should have them all built and welded in here soon... I will be posting pics of the complete front suspension tomorrow sometime... Once i get this all done I'm going to build the strut spring retainers.. Then the steering rack... Then i will get back to rear end and get it all dialed in... Then hopefully it will be at least a roller.... Once it's a roller I'm going to concentrate on installing all the needed body mount brackets and build them then finish up all the welds throughout the chassis... I would like to get it in the booth and acid etch/prime it by November or so.. Time will tell...
If any of you guys have a question on how i fabricated a part.. or how i built a weld jig.. Don't be afraid to ask me.. I take pictures of every step involved so i have a ton of pics if anyone would like to see how it's done... Again thanks for the complements guys...
Take it easy
Stoney

Hey Stoney, I`m just waiting for the body work.
Your fab work has blown me away so far and the body work is going to be impressive. Whats it going to be, metal, plastic or fibreglass?
I`ve been watching your build on a couple of sites and have been damned impressed with what you`ve done with relatively limited tools. The diff was what caught my eye first , it gave me ideas for the build i` still planning. You certainly have created a piece of art, but art is not just created for looking at, so i cant wait to see this thing run.
You have done great work, keep going, you`ve got some fans out here.....
OK I`ll stop raving now.
Cheers
Troppo

RE: 'PROJECT' Quarterscale Pro Street Beretta
Thanks!!!
The body work will be a cake walk... I own an auto body shop so needless to say i have the body work down pat... The body will be made from sheet metal.... The roof / pillars / rockers / quarter panels / cowl / deck support. will be welded together as one piece... The front end will be a removable one piece front end.. The doors will also be operational & removable the trunk lid will be operational & removable... And so on... As for limited tools go.... Buddy i have many tools... I'm just building this thing by hand and can't really use the high dollar tools on it... I bought a nice Syil Super X3 cnc mill a few years ago that i will be doing all the needed machine work on... I really couldn't make any of these parts on the mill... Well i suppose i could if i wanted to invest in a bunch of 4 flute end mills.. and fly cutters but it wasn't necessary...
I haven't had much time to master the mill yet but i have made quite a few aluminum parts on it and i love it... For a cheap mill it sure is precise and simple to set up... I'm going to to all the machine work i can on the 1/3 scale Blown V8 engine on it... As for making the Crank/Cam go... I've been talking a highly skilled machinist that will be making them pieces for me... Hopefully i will be getting the engine shortly after the first of the year... I guess they ran into some issues with the heads castings and they wont ship me the rest of the kit until the heads castings are fixed... I really don't have a clue what the problem is here... I spoke with Ken Hurst about it and he said they have a bunch of head castings... There not limited to just on pair of casings to pour from... So needles to say i'm kinda in the dark on this one.... I know one thing for sure... When i get my two complete casting sets I'm going to keep them in a safe location until i can start the machine work on them...

I was thinking a steel threaded fitting with a brass acorn nut screwed on. This is what made me think that

NOPE!!!
I just inserted the fitting and tightened it then built up welds around the nut... Then i drawed the welds over the 5 points of the nut....
I'll be posting some new shots of the Beretta front suspension this evening...
Later

Well other than a little more welding/grinding the strut lower control arms & brackets are done... I will build the lower/upper spring retainers next.. Then the steering rack... Then i will finish the rear end... Then hopefully i can at least say it's a roller... BTW... These tires/rims are not the ones i plan on using.. There just on there to use as a reference point... Here are a few various shots of them.... I'll post more pics once i get them finished..

Well i now have the new weld/build booth built... It measures aprox.. 8'x11'x6' A far cry from that rinky dink 6x6x6 booth i started with... I'll be posting progress pics on the Beretta build next week sometime....
