Single or twin?
I recommend contacting Shaun Evans. He is a YA rep, and is on here quite often. Email him at: [email protected].

Brg,
Jeff

Elevator= 1 1/4" high rate, 3/4" low rate. Ailerons= 5/8". Rudders= 1/2". Flaps= 20 deg. takeoff, 50 deg. landing. CG= 12.5" forward of the trailing edge of the wings at the root with the gear retracted. If you are using the 24 oz. tank in front of the fan it should be empty when checking the CG. If you are using the conformal cells they should be full before checking. Hope this helps! You may change these to suit the way you fly, but this is what the manual says. Good luck.

Yes I have had two of them. The latest is the arf they came out with. It is a great plane, you will really like it. I was typing the throws from memory, after I got home I found that I was wrong about one of them. The manual calls for 3/4" on the rudders not 1/2". Nothing that would make it crash but thought you should know. If you ever run into a snag and can't get help here, (which is very rare) you should take Jkirkon's advise and contact Shaun Evans. I bought my new F-18 through him and he has really went out of his way to help me get it ready. Again good luck and make sure you let us know how it flew!

Default RE: Need specs for YA F-18

Yesterday I gave the maiden to my Yellow F-18 and I can tell you that the C.G. location that indicates the manufacturer, 12.5" from trailing edge is not correct. It was too nose heavy. I now will start to eliminete weight from it to see what is the best location.
If you have info. that can help, I will appreciate.

It was too nose heavy
If you pulled through without any damage, it was a safety net !

Be VERY careful when trying to make the F-18 less nose heavy! You will hit a point where everything goes wrong, small changes in the CG will make drastic changes the flight characteristics.

Listen to Kenny about the C.G. warning. I've owned three Y/A F-18's (2-df, 1-turbine). On one of my ducted fan versions, I tested the rearward C.G. limit and the plane would rotate but would not climb out. On a seperate flight, I also "pancaked" the same plane at the bottom of a Split-S. The other F-18's with correct C.G. are a ball to fly. They are very forgiving when you try to horse the nose up & down during aerobatic/high-alpha manuevering. Good luck!
