Default Sophia 850 Glowstart plug

Hi All

I have an 850 Sophia which has no glow plug and I have no chance of starting her until a suitable (thin and long?) plug can be found. I bought the turbine without the plug .

Can one be made up from a standard plug, say an OS No8?

Are the factory items still available, new or used?

Does anyone out there have the item for sale?

Thanks

Dave

You can use any glow plug. Just remember to pull the element out a bit.
Start your plug voltage low and bring the voltage up to a nice bright glow.

Default Glow plug

You can't use any glow plug unless you modify the top of the plug to fit down in the hole.

I think the stocks were an R8

Default The top

the part that the wrench fits over.

Not sure how you are supposed to tighten it afterwards?

Dave,

Here is a pic of the glow plug, rubber o-ring & plug retainer. Look's like the actual plug has been modified and threaded into an insert. The insert is held in place with the o-ring & the threaded cap.

Hi Dave

I always used an OS F (four stroke) plug but it has to be modified: -

First you need to turn off the flats to leave the top at 8mm

Second you need a sleeve over the threads to get the remaining part of the plug to a parallel 7mm. I used a piece of brass tube forced over the threads.
The brass tube must extend to the bottom of the plug, as this is the only thing that locates the combustion chamber.

Third tease out three turns of the coil so they are at a right angle to the body,
Set the plug voltage to 2v

Good luck M

Yeah... Good advise here... My memory also tells me that the common one modified by the factory was the Rossi R-8.

Have Fun, David
(Flew my Sophia 4 times this morning! )
