It may be ugly, but it's one of the few jets that you can intentionally spin, upright AND inverted. Have had a bunch of really fun out of control flights in that jet. Not to mention, as you take it vertical, as it approaches zero airspeed, the tip tanks will vent a puff of fuel. If you're perfectly vertical and the winds are light, when you slide back through it, the fuel will ignite briefly, leaving a nice small white "puff" cloud.

When I went through spin training at NAS Oceana (VF-43 as I remember), we did a maneuver in the T-2 they called the lomcevak, although I'm not sure that was totally accurate. Anyway, started in the pure vertical and at 200 knots did two full deflection aileron rolls then applied full forward stick and opposite rudder, I think. Was pretty wild ride for a few seconds!

Gus

Yep, when I went through TPS, that's the way we entered inverted spins. If you hold those controls at the top after the break, it'll usually enter an inverted spin. The great thing about the T-2 was that if you just released controls, it always recovered. Proper recovery controls would make it happen a tad faster (actually one of the test reports we worked on as students), but if you just let go it would recover nicely on its own. One of the reasons we called it "The Safety Jet!"
