Default OS 91 VR-DF OUT OF PRODUCTION?

Hello,

I'm getting back into the hobby and was looking forward to purchasing an OS 91 VR-DF from towerhobbies.com till I saw a discontinued status on it. I thought they just didn't sell it anymore so I emailed towerhobbies and asked...

"Hello,

I was wondering if I can place a special order on a discontinued item. Is this possible? Please let me know.

(LXBZ01) O.S .91 VR-DF Byron

Thanks,
Joseph"

THIS WAS THERE RESPONSE

"Thank you for writing Tower Hobbies. This item has been discontinued by the vendor, which means that the manufacturer is no longer producing these. You may wish to look at your local Hobby Shop to see if they might still have some of these on the shelves. We appreciate your time and your business with us."

I need to know wether this is true or not. If it's really out of production, does anyone know where I can find one? Any help would be appreciated.

Just another reason to go turbine!!!! I hate it for ya though....You might want to try this--Order the small head version and see if you can get a large head here on RCU. I might know of a hobby shop that has a large head available. It will take me a couple of days to see if he has it.

Joseph,

See!!! RCU and Sean has come through for you!!! If you don't need the small head, sell it to recoup the cost of the large head...Problem solved.

Joseph,

In my understanding, this is hopefully temporary.

This has already occured one year ago (perhaps even before ?). Apparently, OS engines makes a run of these engines, stops, then start another one when demand is sufficient... As a result, from time to time, it is no longer available at your LHS...

However, I guess demand is decreasing gradually as jet flyers slowly move on towards turbine... Therefore, these engines may become increasingly scarce. 'Out of stock' periods may get longer... So when you see one, buy it !

I just sold two not to long ago. They were on the market for 2 months and would not sell until I gave them away. Do not pay asking price for these engines, the demand is gone so it really is a buyers market.

The stock # Joseph gave Tower was for a large head Byron version which has been discontinued for quite a while.....So, they aren't going to make the small head version either???

I was planning on purchasing the small head version till I saw that they were also discontinued. I was planning to install the large head as they still sell parts.

We got a flier from Great planes a while ago. They had the 91 back on the list. I will check at work tomorrow and let you know for sure.

Hmmm ... go to Chief A/C [link]http://www.chiefaircraft.com/cgi-bin/rcm/hazel.cgi?action=serve&item=/Models/Model.html[/link] and drill down through Engines to the OS / Ducted Fan stuff - both the big and small head versions are supposedly in stock.
