Eight Turbine B-52
Any of you turbine heads heard of this project? Some crazy guys in England with a 23 foot, 300 pound, eight turbine B-52. Makes my 11 foot B-52 slope glider seem small

That is just stupid. Its bigger than my homebuilt and costs 5 times as much.

I don't see what's stupid about it, eccentric maybe, but not stupid. I doubt it's 5 times as much money either, unless your homebuilt is only like an $8000 airplane

Gentlemen, a LOT of people think WE'RE "stupid" for spending the relatively small amount on our planes. i.e. $300-$400 for a trainer and gear. I think it's a great example of craftmanship. Besides. it's not our money. Let 'em spend it!

If there were a "Homebuilt Forum" here, I would not go there and say that you were STUPID for building and flying in your homebuilt. Even if I thought you were.
The remark you made was uncalled for.

You can't tell me that a 300 pound model full of jet fuel does not have the potential to be very dangerous. That is the reason that the AMA (I realize this thing is not in the USA) has a 50 pound limit to models.
Leave the cost of it out of the discussion. That part I retract since people are entitled to do what they want with their money. Sorry about the cost compairison, that was just my opinion.
I will rephrase my comments to be politically correct:
"That is just large risk that could cause harm to someone or something that costs a great deal of money"

By the way, the weight limit is 55 pounds.
If you're going to bash someone, at least get your facts straight.
And you're right, it's not in the US, so why do you care? In the rest of the world, innovation and taking chances are encouraged. The legal community in the US has put an end to that here in the US.

schmleff,
by the sound of your posts, you are one of those 1/2 blinf seniors who is more dangerous in his big buick than that B52 will ever be ...
if you are so concerned about safety, ask first about the plane, how its build , where its flown, etc ..... then coment if you feel necessary ..

It is. Not trying to start a fight here. I just seems crazy to put that kind of money into something that could go up in smoke so easily.

You can say that about any RC model or almost anything in all honesty. How many people go out and buy a $40,000 4x4 just to take through the woods, or a $25,000 Harley that they lay down the first time out.
Yes, the potential for a huge loss is there, but it is in anything you do.
People have asked me about the cost of my jets many times, when I tell them the price they think I'm nuts, then I compare it to snowmobiles, Harley's, Sports cars etc etc etc. They agree that the cost for a "toy" isn't so bad after that. However, then they say, "it could all be lost in one flight"
My reply is, yup, and a Ferrari can be destroyed in one outing, the difference is I KNOW I can walk away from my crash.

Call it what you want. I think is shows real skill and dedication to this hobby. I for one am very impressed and think some of the other comments made in this post are stupid. Guess we are all allowed our opinions.
