Jackjet,

Wish you had posted sooner. Saturday is the one day I'm not usually out there and I would have made the effort.

Otherwise, I'm out there Wed, Fri, and Sun mornings with one of my jets - MB339 / P80 or L39 with DF.

Next time maybe or Sunday??

Default You guys must be NUTS!!!!!

Rabbit dry lake this weekend?????
I went to Camp Pendelton (on the coast) yesterday and today.....it was around 95 degrees yesterday (with 90% humidity). It was around 100 today, with little humidity. I can imagine how hot is must be at Rabbit. Too damned hot for me. When I assume room temperature and go to Hell, I"ll take the heat.....but not until then!
Did five flights on Sat, and five more today, but it was too hot for me.
Addison called me a little while ago, but I didn't ask him how hot it was this weekend. Bet it's hotter than Kalispell, huh Ad. Hi to Jenny!

The heat don't matter to Tony, he's an old desert rat.
Get your engine back Tony???

Default Rabbit

Harley,

What do you mean "Rabbit dry lake this weekend?????" I fly there every Wed, Fri, & Sun!! And, yes it is hot, but there were also 20 other flyers there today as well and I think they and more will be there tommorrow. 4 flights on the MB339/P80 for me today, plus 3 combat model flights plus my son did 3 on his prop plane. Good day for us.

Default It's a wash

Forget it. We got 111 at Prado today with 75% Humidity YUUCCKK.

Harley, beleive it or not it was actually about up to 20 degress cooler at Rabbit today. they got cloud cover and some parts had some light watering (along with some nasty ashes from three or so fires up there). Maybe next week at Rabbit. I got to test out my MB-339 before we go to Fresno? Rick how much fuel and how long does it last (time up)

Default Fuel & Time

Ralph,

I have 66 oz of fuel on board and am using around 50 per flight - start to stop on the P80/MB339. I run a 5 minute timer that starts at gear up. When the timer beeps, I usually screw around until I get a gear check in front of me right at 6 minutes, then work the landing. This provides enough fuel for two full go arounds - total of three shots at the runway. If the field is clear, sometimes I'll wait until 7 minutes for the gear check and pattern. That leaves one good go around and maybe one good shot at a climb out to a flame out landing. The airplane has excellent glide characteristics on a flameout approach.

Here's the math - 56 flights, 20 gallons of fuel & 4 quarts of oil = 2688 oz / 56 = 48 oz per flight. There were another 8-10 short engine runs out of that total fuel. I suppose I should check total endurance at some point.

Maybe see you next Sunday morning at Rabbit???

Default Hey guys

Would like to bring a jet out to Rabbit and bring my 35% Radiocraft Extra also as I need to get primed for Palm Springs Scale Aerobatics SCAT competition which will be held last weekend in Sept.
1. Would anyone be offended by a flying canoe
in the air for a few flights?
2. Where is the Rabbit turnoff?
3. Let's start laying the ground work for the 1st Annual Palm Springs Jet Rally.
Will need all of your help and input. We have 8O X 6OO feet of virgin SMOOTH asphalt on 36O acres. Concreted pits and shade structures. Would like to get this in the planning stages.

Default Rabbit

We see a large variety of aircraft every weekend at Rabbit. Today, for instance, there was a large ARF Sukhoi SU-31 and a smaller one, a Nosen P-51, 2 helicopters, my turbine MB339, another DF jet, a bunch of combat planes, an Extra or two, and other sport planes. Varies day to day what's there, sometimes its crowded, most times its not. During race season, you'll see the giant scale racers out doing test flights or the ARF T-6 racers. The jet crowd passes through once in awhile. A big Extra won't bother anybody unless you put it over or behind the pits. Be advised, frequency control consists of walking the line and checking with everybody.

Default Directions

Ooops, forgot directions. Think there's maps and directions in a bunch of other threads - might search.

From the I-15 north of Cajon Pass take the Bear Valley off ramp for Apple Valley. Go east all the way to the end where in ties into Highway 18. Thats around 20+ miles. Continue east on 18. After a mile or so you will pass Milpas road and a flying site, that's not it, neither is the one you passed by at Central Ave. Continue for around 5 miles and you will drive down a long hill that takes you through a lakebed. That's Rabbit. Turn in left at the RW Ranch sign or continue into the lakebed and turn left at the end of the fence. We're a half mile out on the lake. You should see a bunch of cars lined up out there.

Default MB-339 and Directions

My directions are a little different and are from Downtown L.A. modify to suit your needs,

RABBIT DRY LAKE From Los Angeles Take the 10 East Towards San Bernardino to the 15 Towards VEGAS, then proceed to the Bear Valley Exit. Directions From almost anywhere south of the San Bernardino Mountains, take I-10 to I-15 or I-215 north. I-15 and I-215 merge to become just I-15 (heading towards VEGAS); I-15 then goes over the 4000+ foot Cajon Pass, and into the Mojave Desert. Just before Victorville, take the "Bear Valley Road" exit and head east. This will go through south Victorville and Hesperia and Apple Valley and eventually merge (Make a RIGHT) with CA route 18 (there is a Rock Formation). Continue on CA-18 until you reach the Dry Lake on your LEFT Hand Side

Rick, I guess I should take some fuel off. I got 78oz witha RAM 500. Hopefully I can make it up Sunday. What tanks did you use? and where did you locate them? I got the 15oz Saddle tanks from Andy, 40oz in front of the intake (under the cockpit ) and a BVM UAT on CG. 40oz drains first.
