Primed it last night. Should be able to paint it this week.
At this stage it is either RAM 500 or OS 91. the inlet was reinforced with Carbon, so was the are in the fuselage under and above the wing spars. The exhaust was cut out and added a circular bulkhead for a possible tailpipe? Tams?

BTW,
PW nozzle, cockpit kit, and hatch were courtesy of Jeff Kirkonis. Thanks a bunch Jeff.
Im going to paint it in the Israeli Air Force colors. Hopefully tomorrow. I ordered the Aeroloft Dry-transfers today. Should get them in a couple of weeks.
Too bad Pro-Mark doesn't have that many markings for the F-16. I would have bought from them instead.

Is that a cockpit kit from the new Y/A F-16? If no, whose kit is that?
Great job, by the way.

Oosiksmith,
That is the cockpit kit from the new YA F-16 (crashed one that I bought for parts). With a 'killer cockpit' kit from Just the Pits, it can be made to look like this:
Pretty Bit&#in, huh!
BTW: the pilot is a modified Century Jet pilot I had to cut, fit and fanagle into place.
Brg,
Jeff

Hi Falconwings.....
Looking at your pictures have inspired me to get on building my own.......
But Im concerned about the wings.
It just seems weak with the ply wingspar is just glued to the upper and lower balsa wing skins.
Have got given it extra layers of glass at the wing/fuselage joint?

Hey Sonich,
I opened the spar slots a little bit, then soaked the slots in Hysol (Aeropoxy) and inserted the wing into the spars (the excess Hysol wil drip at the bottom). I also appiled Epoxy-Microballon mix at the fuselage joint. I am in no way an expert at building jets, but I "tested" the strength of the joint and I think the wing would break most likely at the tip raether than at the spar joint.
One thing you need to do is reinforce the strake area above and below the wing joint, I was told by an expert that it tends to crack in this area from hard landings. I also reinforced the fuselage bottom between the gear doors and the ventral fins. Previous experience with the BVM was that in case of an up-wheels landing this area will crack open.
I find this kit very easy to build, but time consuming. It is the first DF I ever build and I would recommend it to anyone. The hardest part was the nose gear door installation, and adding the scale padding to all doors. Otehr than that, Im a happy camper!

Thanks.
I glued the wings on, at yes, they seem quite strong.
Ive just given them a layer of carbon for a wee extra strength.

Can you please take some pictures of your gear area for me ?
I have the f-16a sport version, and the formers block the scale outline of the maingear doors.... Is your much different ?

Damn, I was goona do my new Y/A F-16 in that sceme too. I guess I should find another. I liked that one though because of the color difference on top and bottom. It will be easier to find in the sky and know its orientation. Oh well, I'll have to look for another color scheme with a 2 tone shot!!!

Ian,
if you want a highly visible, easy to paint two tone then do the Edwards Chase Plane with Pro Mark decals.
Or there is a "VISTA" F-16 purely white and Navy blue.
Hell, just go to F-16.net and pick a scheme.[8D]
The IAF shceme is of sentimental value to me, as my fisrt duty ever at LM was to do design work on Israeli Block 50's (yes the ones that make the Falcon look like a mad cow).

Thanks David.
Ive got some time yet, until I have to install my gear anyway
Just peeled off the plastic bags from my wings....Im not so concerned about their strength anymore

SNJ,
What weight carbon cloth did you use for the wings, and how much weight did you end up adding overall to the plane.
I was thinking of using some 2oz/sq. yd carbon cloth on my Hunter wings, but the weave looks very wide and I am worried about the weight of all the expoxy required. To cover the weave, I thought I might have to add a layer of glass cloth (0.7oz), but again I'm worried about the weight.
Thanks
Paul

The cloth Im using is a bit overkill..... Ive just had it lying araond for too long, and decided to use it on this plane to get rid of it [8D]
I have not weighed anything before/after.
But.
I have mixed up 120g of epoxy, and there is less that 160 of carbon on it.
So that is about 280g or 9.8 oz og weigt as it is now. After sanding, it will weigh even less.
The cloth is 160grams per square meter........and that is ??? in oz/sq :-)

Paul,
I would use K&B (or similar) Polyester resin. It is more "liquid" than Epoxy and I think it penetrates better, not to mention it is very easy to sand.
However the fumes are a killer. The smell is almost unbearable.
