RE: Fentress in Chesapeake, VA
It is always on the Sat and Sun of Memorial Day weekend. It is the only weekend that the club can guarantee that hey can get the field. We usually get there during the day of Friday and leave Monday morning for home. Great place to fly I try never to miss it.

Here's an OLD flyer with all the info. Everything is correct except the dates. Flying is Sat. & Sun. with Fri. being a set-up day. Flying on Friday is dependent on the Navy. We never know if they will be "bouncing" or not. We have gotten to fly on Fri. a couple times. Come on out anyway if we don't get a chance to fly, you'll at least get an up close and personal look at an F-18E or F-14 doing touch & go's.
I'm sure Frank R. (CD) will see this thread and chime in. The dates are 28th & 29th.

I can tell you that I would seriously pass on the Hampton Inn as their services where terrible and we had inspect issues in the room. Hotel did nothing about it.
Highly recommend the Holiday Inn.

I think there's a Days Inn, and a few other there (can't think of all the names offhand).

Mark, there is no overnight storage provided. We leave our trailers there overnight, that's about it. There are usually a couple pilots that stay at the site overnight (RV) and leave their planes out. It is on a Navy facility so it is safe.
As far as hotels, you can't go wrong with the ones listed on the flyer (except maybe the one Kerry mentioned). I have not stayed at any of those hotels but I would say the nicest of the bunch would the Courtyard Marriot. I believe the hotels listed on the right side on the flyer are the newer places and the ones on the left are a little older. They are all (or at least 80%) located of Greenbrier Pkwy and I-64. I know one guy stays right on the strip at the beach and it is straight shot to the field, 20 min. The only downside to the beach is getting around with a trailer and the parking is very limited.

Mark that will be great, if you stay all week, you'll be able to join us when everybody else leaves to go home . The Extended Stay America or possibly the Fairfield Inn will be your best bet, but try all of them. There is also a new one that just opened call Suburban Suites, Inn or Lodge, not sure. They are actually still building it, but they do have a section open to stay at. If you need that info. I will get it for you.
Ron, just bring the "Off" and a giant fly swatter

There are no updates, just come out and fly on an 8000' asphalt runway. As far as flying on Friday? there probably won't be any, BUT we have to play it by ear. If the navy isn't bouncing that day, they probably will allow flying later in the day. NOW HEAR THIS! If you manage to get out to the field early and no one is there? DO NOT FLY!!! I will be there early anyway setting up the field. Once I get confirmation from the OIC it will either be GO OR NO GO on the flying for Friday. If it's a go you can fly until dark. Do not wonder around the base, mobile security will be conducting excercises on Friday, this has been confirmed but may change. Remember this field is an active Naval installation, keep your speed 15 MPH or you will get chased and possibly cited. The crash crew will be doing the cooking on Saturday and Sunday. You can camp overnight, but I recommend once it turns dark, you should stay put, and not travel off and on the base. If you want to know if flying is allowed on Friday, you can call my cell 757-620-3865 call after 1200
