I saw one today at my local shop, NOT impressed... Just does not feel right to me, it has a thin case.. Also has a lipo battery and a very HIGH price tag for what you get....And for the record i do now and have always flown Futaba....Thinking about switching though.. Russ

I believe it does have sliders they are VERY small and located at the top corners on the very back, almost like Trim tabs.. Russ

Having been a Futaba guy since 1986 I have been a little disappointed the last few years in the ergonomics of the higher end transmitters they have produced. I am looking forward to checking out the 12Z because it looks a little friendlier than the 14mz in terms of ergonomics. I recently bought my first JR (9303) and find it much more comfortable for me. If the 12Z isnt better than I will become a JR guy and get the 10x.

We have the 12MZ in stock now. They do not have Li Po's. It is a Li-Ion battery pack, exactly the same as in the 14 mz. Started to check them out and I do believe that they also have the 2 digital only channels. They are much smaller than the 14MZ, do not have a color or touch screen. Feels very small ion the hand after using the 14. although they do seem very nice. Again no servos, but a much nicer case. It is a lay down style and has room for charger and other goodies.

9c for $500, trans/rec... 12zap for $1400, trans/rec. Both with sythesized trans/rec. $900 for extra 3 channels. Seems way over priced to me.

Thanks DP. I didn't see them "on the sides" like we are use to seeing. I'm not sure I would like them on the back, but I'd have to hold it and check it out to see how it feels. Also, why do they continue to insist on "digital" channels (on-off) effectively reducing a 12 ch. radio to 10?

$1400!! WOW. Sounds like a lot but then I've been spending more lately than I thought I ever would.
Still, that's more than twice as much as my Evo 12 Synth and Synth RX. Does that include the RX?

I agree, that's not a very nice looking radio! It has no style to it-has the looks of a cheap 6 channel Futaba or such.Again this is merely my opinion.I certainly dont see 1500.00 worth there

I owned a Futaba 14MZ and it was used for 5 flights on my new Boomerang XL.This was the first time my 14MZ was used since it's purchase approx. 4 months prior.lI have been a loyal Futaba guy since 2000 and long story short I just sold my 14MZ and bought a new JR 10X.

Sorry to repoen such an old thread, but I have been interested in this radio since it was introduced and I had searched and read this thread as recently as a couple of days ago, so I figured others might have as well. This radio defintiely has some interesting (unique?) features available that will interest jet guys and others.

First, it is not 10 channels + 2 switched channels. Using G3 modulation, all 12 channels are fully proportional.

Second, the radios are now shipped with software fully supporting 2 MPDX-1 multi-proportional system decoders. Contrary to what I thought previously, these MPDX-1s are NOT like JR Channel expanders. And the MPDX-1 decoders work with PCM1024 and PPM modes, therefore they work with older 149DP recievers, as well as with the new Futaba FASST spread spectrum modules. Based on how I understand them to work, they will work with the new Spektrum modules. This adds 7 proportional channels right off the bat (channels not to be used as flight control, but for things like gear, speedbrakes, auxilliary turbine controls, etc.)

When I get the MPDX-1 I just ordered, I will report on it. It just might be a VERY interesting product, time will tell.

Matt
Got mine in November of last year, its a great radio. I have ordered the 2.4 FASST system for it. Its 10 channel in PCM 1024 (you can send Futaba 149 RX in to have it converted to 10 channels) , 12 channel in PPM.

Anyone tell me how to get more than 8 channels if not using the 5014 rx? When I set it up I can only access channels 1 - 8 with any other rx. The manual that comes with the set also says when using an rx other than the PCM-G3 type that this is so. If this is true then the set is of less use than a FF9

What software version do you have? The lastest 1 allows for 10 channels on PCM 1024 and 12 channels for PPM(FM). When I get home (about 1 hour) I'll let you know what version I have.

When you go in the function menu after channel 8 you keep on scrolling through VC1 -VC4 until you come to DG 1 (ch9) and DG2 (ch10) These are not proportional channels.

Also with the latest upgrade the radio has the same number of channels as the 14mz. 12 proportional and 2 digital on/off.

yep, and to get 10 channels on a 149DP Rx, I thought you needed a hardware modification to the RX.

I will try to dig it up, it was a soldered wire as I remember. It gave you the 10th (non proportional) channel.
