RE: Facet 2300 HP Low Rider
Actually, what I did was added retracts to it. I couldn't figure out how to install the mains inside the fuse, so I mounted them to a piece of 6061 aluminum just ouside the fuse. I then butchered a pair of wing tanks for a JMP F-4 Phantom and installed them on the fuse sides for the mains to retract into. I had to lengthen the nose so that I could retract all 3 gear forward. I'm using a set of Spring Air gear with a Behotec trailing link strut on the nose and Jet 1A trailing link struts on the rear.

What are you watching on TV?? Is that JR
Ground handling probably won't be as good as stock due to the narrow mains, but since most of my flying is off grass, the occassional wing scrape while taxiing won't do any damage. I'll just have to be extra careful taxiing on pavement.

Barry, I wish I was off this weekend. [] I will be off the following 2 weekends and I will be flying somewhere so maybe I can hook up with ya'll then.
Tom, the brakes are Trim and I did not have to do anything to the struts or the brake hubs.

Gary, please tell that darn Trioval00 of the goodness of the swept wing. He has a core set since Moby Dick was a minnow and he has yet to built them.
Seriously, looking forward to the flight results.

Hey gary,
Can you tel Mr Vampire, i have the swept wings under construction. my garage fell apart and had to rebuild it plus with all the work going into the jet aerobatic event i was very busy, so now the new work shop will be complete this weekend,
I am very interested in the retracts for the 2300, i just might have to figure out a set up for mine. I feel a long cold winter coming on with lots of build time
Mark

Pat,
The nose gear retract is mounted to a horizontal ply mount. Since I had to build a complete new nose asy, it was easy to do. If you mount a retract to the existing vertical former, the nose isn't going to be long enough. Before I tore mine up, I was considering using a bulkhead mount retract and just lengthen the nose, starting at the existing hatch opening.
I also considered retracting the mains rearward and just let them tuck up underneath the turbine tailcone. But since I decided to go with Spring Air gear I had lying around, I decided to retract all 3 forward. That way, I did not have to worry about whether the gear would lock down.
I'll snap some pics of the fuse construction when I get home tonight.
Kerry,
After Mark puts a few flights on the swept wing version, he will be wishing he had finished them sooner. What does he need with a garage anyway. One of the jet guys down here is building a jet in his front yard, due to space problems.
