Not all that amazing. You can tell by the high Angle of attack of the jet that it is probably going as slow as it can without stalling and the sailplane has probably just came out of a huge dive. show me an RC jet at full power being beaten by an unpowered RC sailplane then I'll be impressed.

I have heard that the fastest r/c model was indeed a glider. mind you this is while back that I heard this so things may have changed. Anyone care to chime in?

Dynamic Soaring can get you to pretty spectacular speeds but locations that are suitable for that are unlikely to be viable for model jets.

edit:
an explanation:
http://www.geocities.com/soaringbythebay/dsoar.htm

a German video (21,6 MB wmv) :
http://www.dynamic-soaring.de/images....06_teil_2.wmv

the planes in the video are doing something close to 200 mph.

I thought the glider speed was about 251 MPH.

I looks like the jets doing a landing run, just a bit higher off of the ground. Not very impressive really.

I believe someone at Point of the Mountain just did 301 recently. Check out slope in RCGroups.

Dean,
you're right. I've been to that website a few times and watched the videos. Absolutely amazing to watch them in that pattern off the slope and watch the radar gun readout increasing on each progressive pass. I remember seeing 301mph.

I can tell you I have nailed over that on my modified BobCat Composite ... I had a wing failure on another BobCat ( still around ) and that happened at an estimated 40+ Gs .. Im sure the new one can take even more before failing with the modifications and reinforcements ..

Hey Voy,
I wasn't aware of that! I do recall the DS'er was estimated at over 50 Gs,

by the way, the 40+ maneuver that failed the wing was UNDER 200 mph ( had the plane limited at the time via pitot sensor ) .... I find dropping into a fast pass, the G's never really exceed 15 or so through the maneuver ....

I would love to try slope soaring some time ... no places on the east coast that im aware of for this however ....

Nice video. Really like the music. Wonder who it is? Joe Satriani maybe?
