Default NEW Jet Hangar ARF F-86

Hey Guys I had the chance of a lifetime today and was able to fly the prototype of the NEW Jet Hangar ARF F-86 Sabre. WOW!!!! Doesn't do it justice. What a great flying jet. Smooth on all manuvers and slows beyond belief. With power at idle and full up elevator it never dropped a wing tip or the nose. Just mushed along losing altitude slowly. Really a jet that flies like a trainer. It would make the perfect jet trainer. Don't know when it will be available, but for anyone wanting to get into Jets or just have a great flying jet it will be well worth the wait. It had a Wren 44 in it, but they say it will also be setup to accept the Jetcat P60 and other 12 to 13 lb turbines. It really is a great flying jet.

It should be the same as their kit...but in ARF form...check their site out: [link=http://www.jethangar.com/Aircraft/Sabre/F86.html]http://www.jethangar.com/Aircraft/Sabre/F86.html[/link]

Well went out again today in hopes of seeing the 86 fly. It did and just as good as yesterday. Really a smooth flying plane. No bad habits at all. Also got to T/o and land it this time. It really can be sold as a FIRST JET!!! I don't know when it will be availabe, but it shouldn't be long. Maybe someone will chime in and let us know.

Those pics look like an Fj-3 fury. Not an f-86? []

How come no one will make an F-86 ARF in the sky blazers?

From the link posted before:

The Jet Hangar International F-86F Sabre/FJ-2/3 Fury is a true ducted fan trainer. This kit provides a simple to build and easy to fly trainer type ducted fan aircraft while still maintaining the scale lines of the F-86F Sabre and FJ-2/3 Fury. Designed around our TURBAX fan system with a K&B 7.5, .48 or OS .46 VX-DF, this forgiving flying airplane is also ideal for the MW-44 turbine! Designed with a modified flat bottom airfoil with a symmetrical tip airfoil, the aircraft exhibits excellent stability at all speed ranges. Include the flaps and speed brakes and this aircraft will amaze you with the tremendously stable and slow landings you'll be performing. You are sure to WOW them at the flying field with our F-86F Sabre/FJ-2/3 Fury. It is simple to build and fly and is ever so forgiving to the pilot.
So, it's considered a trainer in Sabre & Fury flavors by JHH.

Hi All,

I had a great chance to test out the new Sabre/Fury too. I have a kit built-up version of JHH Sabre F86F, so Larry called me up and want me to fly his prototype and compare it to my kit built Sabre. Here are my comments,

1. The new ARF Sabre can be used for both EDF and Turbine without any modifications. Its construction is fully composite, fiberglass fuselage and wings, with carbon fiber on stress area. Both EDF and Turbine engine bulkheads are included so we can choose the power plant and convert to the other later if we want to. This is a nice feature 'cause I can try EDF first and then move up to turbine later.

2. This ARF has 2 large fiberglass saddle tanks, about 48 oz total, I guessed. With a Wren 44 Gold in there, I was able to fly for 10 minutes at 80% throttles and still have 1/4 fuel left on the main tanks. With a P60 at 50%, I might be able to get the same flight time as well.

3. It has detachable horizontal fins and one piece wing. What I really like about this is it's strength and simplicity. I won't say this is a very scale looking plane. It's more of sport scale plane that can be very economical to operate.

4. How does it fly? Just like voodoo said, it's like a trainer. both my kit version and this one are very stable in flight, but both still has the full scale like small dutch rolls in turbulent air. A rudder gyro from GWS solved the problem on my kit version. Landing is easier than my similar size A7. It has better glide slope than I expected , so it would float if it comes in with too much power and not enough alpha. I will pop out the air brake if it has it. I think it's optional in this ARF kit.

5. the full composite construction is what I like the best in this ARF comparing to my kit version. It's so strong that I don't have to worry too much about my bad landings. The wheelbase is a bit narrow, like the real one, so steering on the ground can be senstive.

6. the flight speed - It's within a comfortable 150 mph range at full throttle. I really don't notice big speed difference between 70% to 100% throttle, so cruise at 60 to 70% throttle is quite comfortable,

7. Options offers - Just talked to Larry about the options that he's offering. He wants to offer 3 paint standard paint scheme, one is F86H Airforce, One Navy and one primer. I'm more interested in the Navy (like the one on jethangar website) dago red/white/silver version because it's more visible. The retract system is rather simple, it uses Robart or JHH retracts and any typical 2.25" tires and brakes from BVM or TRIM or any other. He might offer a standard set later this year. It comes with tanks for turbine. Exhaust pipe is optional depending on thrust class.

My verdict on this one is that this is a simple, easy to fly, scale like, low cost jet that can be used as a trainer or sport. It's small enough that it fits in my travel case so I can take it with me while I travel or pack it in my SUV without taking the wings off. A sweet scooter.

When's available? I guess August or September this year? Gotta ask Da Father.

Mike

Check out the 2nd video of the flights. In these flights, we flew some aerobatic manuvers and high speed low passes. I was able to land it with a final approach holding only 15 to 20% throttles, glides pretty easy on this one.

It carries about 46 oz of fuel on the 2 main tanks plus one 4 oz BVM UAT. I got 10 minutes of flight time with 1/4 of fuel left on the main tanks. At one point, we flew 12 minutes when we buddy cord it and fly at 1/2 throttle doing simple laps.

The tail feathers don't look scale, other than that it looks pretty cool to me. A little small though.

The tail section looks like a Fury with the straight stabs. Hey, still looks like a Sabre to me and flys super. Was there ever a bad flying F-86 ?? ha !!! nice size jet for the Wren 44, maybe have to add more fuel for the P60, about 12oz more.

Hi All,

This is a F86H model that Navy also use and call it FURY. The full scale has straight horizontal tails. The one most people are familiar with is the F86F model that has dihedral on the horizontal tails. Talked to JHI about that, they say we as customers can decide to convert it to F model or just leave it at H model or Navy Fury. For me, it is a sport scale, so it looks good either way.

I plan to put a P60 on my Sabre later. The existing tanks should give me about 7 to 8 minutes of flight times since I don't need to go full throttle on a 13 lbs plane with a 13 lbs thrust engine all the time.

Hi Vincent,

These are some pictures of the F86H and Navy, Marine Fury paint scheme that we can use as paint reference. I like the Airforce one on the bottom of the pictures

Nice job Larry and Chris:

Been flying an earlier JHH Sabre (WHAM BAM) with my Green 44, about 150 flights so far, 16 + 24 oz aboard with felt clunk, no UAT, regular 8 min flights. Not quite as robust as this composite version should be.

Always wanted to make an orange and white FJ3 Fury. Were the early Furys standard "40" wings, like the F86H's?

I too ,am waiting to see one live, maybe at Toledo. I was under the impression at Toledo last year (2007) that the F86/Fury was an addition to the A7 line of ARF's coming out for their Electric Turbax Unit. I can see where a Wren 44 would be a perfect set-up for the F86/Fury or the A7. I saw JHH's Electric Turbax unit last year in a scaled down F4 . Flew very well and sounded good too.

Hi Guys,

WE've had a few unforseen set backs in the production, but we have kits here...unfortunately as is they are incomplete. The remaining parts are on their way I'm told.
