Fox Cub Turbine Trainer
A friend of mine asked me to put together a new ARF he purchased from Altecare in Canada. It looks like a Facet on steriods. Very clean lines and also well built. It comes with wheels and brakes and some hardware. It took me about 2 days to frame it up just needing the turbine install. This one wil have a Wren 44, but could take up to a 12-14 lb motor. Plenty of room for all the equipment. Included in the kit is a high quality nose strut. The hardware leaves a bit to be desired, but some 4-40 rods and Sullivan clevises remedied that problem.
The wings are a 2 piece affair that has a carbon fiber rod for support with thumb screws to fasten them to the fuse. The supplied hatch latch for the canopy had to be replaced with a BVM one. It is covered in Monokote in a very pleasing color scheme. A Spectrum DX-7 is the radio of choice. If you are looking for a good looking knock around jet, check out the Fox Cub. There are no written instructions, only a CD with about 20 color photos.

I believe there was a thread on this a few months back. Seemed that there were issues in getting it to balance correctly?
Please keep us posted on your progress!
Never mind..found the link..

I did not see ant flight reports on the ones in the thread.

I just finished reading the Jan 07 thread. Those kits must have been from the first run as there have been a few mods made on the newest batch. They are imported by Altecare Models in Toronto, Canada. I think he is the sole importer so far. The shipping from Canada is about $75 to the States. New version has a clear canopy and a fiberglass nose piece. The wing are built up balsa and fully sheeted. The parts fit was very good as critical areas lined up on the money. Heavy duty Robart hinges were used on the ailerons and flaps. This kit come with some copies of the smaller Robart hinges which were used on the stab and rudder. Will advise on flying characteristics as soon as the winds in So Florida give up the ghost. This weekend they are to be in the 25 to 35 mph range. Will be using a 32 oz Dubro tank with the 44. The kit comes with molded f/g tank that would be better for a larger engine.

There is a review of the Foxcub in the latest issue of RCJI written by myself. I think the model is just fine for a small turbine, easy to fly and land and small enough to fit in most cars.

Please note that you have fitted the aluminium support for the noseleg upside down! The tapered section fits inside the fuselage and lines up with the steering servo arm. If you fly it the way you have installed it the model will probably take off too quickly as the wing incidence will be too great. You will also rip the noseleg out on landing if you get that far.

Thanks for the heads up on the nose strut. Seemed to me that it should ork the way I installed it, but will correct b/4 maiden flight. We are having horrific weather here in So Florida. Winds have been in the 20-30 knot range for over 2 months. Also the grass is like tinder if you have read the thread on the banning of turbines at one of the Florida flying fields.
