1st Annual Sin City Jets Rally (Vegas Baby!)
Can't make it out to Florida this year?? The Las Vegas Radio Control club [link=http://www.lvrconline.com/index.html](LVRC)[/link] has been generous enough to host the first annual Sin City Jets Rally.
Who: You and me
What: 1st Annual Sin City Jets Rally
When: November 2,3,4
Where: William Bennett flying field in Las Vegas (Site of the old TOC competition) About 10 minutes from the strip!
Why: Cause flying jets is fun, and flying them in Vegas is even more fun. (Because there's lots to do at night after all the jets have gone to sleep)
Local hotels/casinos are Sunset Station and Fiesta-Henderson. If enough interest is posted, we will get a group rate.
The cost for the event is still TBD. We want to keep it more than affordable and are still trying to get things like Jet A and smoke on site.
I have attached some photos so you can see some shots of the field and surrounding areas. RV parking and camping is available, and there's plenty of grassy picnic area available.
The runway is 700' x 150', however the runoffs are extremely short. We will probably use an arresting system at the ends of the runway.
You have the opportunity to tailor this event to your specifications.....take advantage of it. What do you want, what don't you want. If you don't have a blast at this event, it's because you didn't speak up.
The event website is not quite done yet, but will be here: [link=http://sincityjets.com]Sin City Jets[/link]
So, tell us what you would like!

What are those buildings under the pattern on the left side??

Not sure what you were talking about, I uploaded another picture that is zoomed out further. The road on the west side is the west boundary. Our North and East boundary is almost unlimited. We have had several big events here, and as long as pilots obey the West boundary, we don't have any problems.

There appear to be buildings behind walls/fences in the upper left hand corner of the pic about 600-700 feet from the end of the runway.
I've just happened to have in the past a first hand relationship with buildings in the pattern. So these are ok to overfly?

Maybe I can hitch a ride with you guys Dave, I would assume the whole Tam crew would go. This would be an epic trip with the strip 10 minutes away!!!!!!!!!

Well, that was actually AFTER she said "OOH, OOOH, OOOOOHH!!" at the mention of Vegas (As if the 3 times she's been this year already aren't enough , never mind the fact that she's off to Reno next weekend )

I've flown quite a lot in Vegas (used to stop by there on the way to & from the Utah jet meet), though not at the TOC field - always flew at the North field (the William McCool Memorial field).
Biggest concern I've always had was parking $40,000 worth of toys in a huge casino parking garage that's a long way from where you have a chance of ever hearing the alarm. I'm thinking that staying at a Motel 6 would be better, but I doubt that I could wean Helen away from her Hilton digs.

One suggestion for jet storage, is to coordiante with someone who will be camping at the flying field and just catch a taxi down to the strip. We'll get you down there somehow.

For aircraft security, maybe rent a 40x40 tent to be set up at the field for overnite storage of aircraft. Hire an overnite guard for two nites. I remember at the TOC's they used to have a tent like this set up for the entire week.

I think everyone should surround David Searles motor home with their planes if they are worried about them being safe......not to many people in this world would attempt to steal anything within a 400' radius of the big man.
That is unless he whips' out the Te-quill-ya like he did at California Jets......then there is nothing safe from being fell on!
Or put your plane in Duky's Shang-ri-la.....pilots would be petrified that Duky would nag them to death about the one favor that he did for them by letting use his real estate!
The Sauzeech pit is pretty safe too.......nobody wants to sleep with the fishes, so they better just stay away.

When the TOC was going on, we used to park in the back of the Sahara and there were a couple of times people had their cars and trailers broken into.. Bill Hempel once lost wings and stabs from his #1 airplane the night before the TOC started.
I'm not trying to scare you, but I would absolutely recommend you take whatever steps necessary to secure your stuff. Trusting hotel security won't cut it.

A tent with a security guard is an option, however it increases the cost of the event. The goal is to keep the costs low, but still providing the amenities you want.
We are working on getting some Jet A or Kerosene and smoke on site. There will be hotdogs/hamburgers and drinks on site.
Let me know any more requests.

I don't think any of us would resent spending a little extra to know our planes are safe, while we're on THE STRIP! Worrying about your planes while playing Blackjack or getting a lap dance is a BUMMER[:@]

HEy Guys! The response is exactly what I told Chad it would be....I done several helicopter events at the Bennet field and I knew everyone would be onboard with a trip to Vegas.
Nowthen, I will be on station all night every night of the event and I can assure you that if your stuff is there it will be safe...I have had my watch over thousands of dollars of helicopter gear and not lost anything yet.
So, there you have it, I will volunteer to be base security...if it moves, I will know about it. If it don't belong it will know about it VERY quickly....
