Great to see that the J/L 1/6" F-16 has been delivered to a customer in Europe!
Hope to get mine soon here in the states.
Any chance that is one has the clam speed brakes in the back?
Keep us updated in your progress.
Thanks

No Speed Brakes, apparently that was just another JL tall tail. Gentleman, don’t hurry to get this one... Looks are not everything. Landing gear is crap! Left main wheel binds and will not turn freely. Nose gear is weakened by the removal of metal in a high stress area (see photo). Notice drive rod and were it passes through, very poor design! Main gear will not retract into up lock position, the main wheels contact each other and bind the retract mechanism on the last 10 percent of up travel. And you guessed it, the main gear doors will not close like that. I needed to push the gear in by hand. Did I mention I’m using over 100 psi… Not sure if an adjustment can be made, or smaller wheels are needed. Too much money ,too little quality. This kit is for sale!!![&o]

Man, thats too bad about the gear. The stab mech's look pretty robust though. I cant believe that they let the quality slip on the gear, the most important part of that plane.

I don't get it. The gear on the 1/8th works pretty good.

My 1/8 scale gear worked FLAWLESS! Tracks Streight, Never binds, Brakes are GREAT. Have you checked to see if the shock travel is OK?

Phil,
I know you were very pissed that it took like 8 or 9 months to get the jet.
Is it really that bad?
The kit sells for under 3K complete. Seems like alot bang for the buck to me, but then Im not looking at it either. The pics look great.
Im suprised they installed the gear and didnt check them.
Could those restrictors be jacking with the gear?
Scott

Good to see that the jet is being delivered. I have been waiting since October for the one I had ordered, so maybe it will come soon. Sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with the quality of this plane.

Hi Scott,
Not Pissed, Just very disappointed, a good product will always be worth waiting for. This one is not. My expectations are not the problem, the kit is the problem. I spent around 6 hours so far on this kit. The gear did not come installed, I installed them. The brake o-ring was not allowing free movement of wheel, so I put oil on it. It seems to work now, however the right works fine without oil. If you have this problem you should be able to fix them also. For permanent fix the brake drums will need to be machined to the same size and two standardized o-rings installed.

As far as the main gear retracts go, the strut travel is the problem here. Can it be fixed, yes? At this point the struts must be fully compressed for the gear to work freely. In this position (Struts compressed) the gear will close and the main gear doors have the clearance to close also. Again my expectations, if you pay nearly $1000 the design should work and this does not! Recommendations: if you have this problem, pin or glue struts in compressed position.

Nose gear works good; just looks weakened by the removal of that much material in a high stress area. When this part eventually fails it can be replace with a better design.

Fiber glass work is fair, many voids. This can be fixed with light filler and then spot painted.

My kit also had numerous epoxy-finger-prints, this and the brake problem may vary from kit to kit. However the other problems are designed in and must be corrected by the owner. Good Luck.

Phil
