JAS-39 Gripen Owners/Build Thread

Greetings from Top Gun,
It was a busy day yesterday with assembling the Gripen, painting some features (the gun and touch ups) and gluing on the scale details I made this past weekend. It was a thrill to get the plane finished (for now) and be able to stand back and see it all.
I was honored to have ace photographer take some pics of the plane including one of his signature sunset shots. David does awesome work!
Today will be some final prep for static judging tomorrow and maybe even a bit of socializing.
Regards,
Jim

I PIO'd it on take off for a practice flight Friday afternoon. It bellied in at the end of the runway. Significant damage so it won't fly again at Top Gun.
The Gripen will fly again, just not this weekend. I'll get it fixed for the JWM and it will be better than ever.
Regards,
Jim

Jim, sorry to hear of your misfortune at TG but know that the rebuild will be even better. Just watch the 20 kilo limit on repairs. How'd you do in Static?
Take care and hope to see you in August at the JWM.

Looks good. Cannot wait to see a video. I am just wishing for a larger Gripen. But at this time our rand has just gone down too much. I cannot even think about importing.
Waow Jim
It is so sad to read. I just hope your'e very busy repairing. Like I know you, you'll be up and ready very fast. All of the best.

Before all of this happened Jim's jet was a star attraction at Top Gun. Everyone was extremely impressed with the way it looked. It had a presence about it that just seemed to have that "larger than life" feel. The buzz around it was significant. Large crowds gathered to get a closer look when he took it out and when we carried it to static. I know Jim will eventually sort out all of the take off issues on this airframe and bring it back to TG one day. We are all anticipating the time when we get to see this fantastic bird with it's unique theme fly again.

Ok so I did maiden my gripen and the was scary ride specialy the takeoff from flat ride to 65degre jump in 0.0001 second and then up and down like 6 times super pitch sensitive and tail heavy + needs lot of up and right trim and way to much throws ,first I did lower the throws I haved 3 modes so this was easy and start trimming for about 30 second but stil tail heavy but able to fly very wobble + 100% cross wind about 18 mph ,did some more circles and landed I did flap hoarder than my usual landings but the jet is ok one pice ,there little damadge to the retract former one left side will fix this fast change the cg and throws setting and will try again ,+ I will install bigger main wheels from 3.5 to 4.5 cut the main struts shorter and springs to softer ,will post video of the flight later ,pictures right before flight ,checking all and charging batteries .

Congrats on the maiden! I know exactly what that oscillation and pitch sensitivity is like. A real underwear changing experience, lol.
I bet that whatever solution resolves the issue on one plane will work on the other. It will be nice to have a second person working on the problem.
Incidentally, the full scale Gripen has 25.5" diameter main wheels.
Regards,
Jim
