Ziroli Turbinator Pics
I've been kicking around the idea of building a Ziroli Turbinator but have found very little about the plane on RCU....Laser Design Services lists this plane as one of their best sellers....There has to be several out there either under construction or finished....
So....If you are building one or have already built one please post your Turbinator pics here!!![8D]...Completed models or construction pics welcome!!!...Tell us the areas you think need attention....Describe your setup and what you are using to power your bird...Lastly, if you have a video of your flights, post them here too!!!
Let's get it started....[sm=thumbup.gif]

RE: Ziroli Turbinator Pics
Keven, I have built one of the first turbinator kits that came from Nick, I was home recouperating from surgery last winter and built it in nine days. I have a P-120 for power (and it has lots of power) a P-70 or 80 would be perfect. Robart retracts and struts BVM T-33 main wheels and brakes. Tank is from my old Kanagroo that just fits, but holds 100 oz. Servos are Futaba 9202's for the elevator (2) and rudder, JR 4721 for flaps and 8101 for ailerons. Battery is a 4 cell 3200 nicad since it needed nose weight from the bigger engine, I beefed up the gear area after a bad landing (my fault) in a severe cross wind that tore the gear out on the second bounce. The plane flies like a dream and lands as slow as my Reaction-54 but looks better in the air. Several people have posted pictures here just do a search. There are a couple of pictures of mine flying in the posts from Liberty bell and Hamburg rallies. Nick is coming up next week to work with me for the next few months at my regular job and has just finished the 2 piece wing mod so I might build a second one since it would be easier to transport and store for me. One of the few planes I would ever build a second one of if it went away. Ten of us in our club are building the Electric version that is about 1/2 size and it flies great as well. I'm building a 150% size of the EDF that will be 60" in span. Send me your email address and I'll take any pictures you want of a finished one. I tried to load pictures here but never can seem to get them uploaded.

I also have heard the Turbinator arf word too but it was the small electric version that I heard about We will see, someone did the Reaction and it looks pretty good!! I help Ron at the jet rallys and his Turbinator is a great flying airplane. It has a nice presence in the air and really does slow down for landing. Ron really has his mixes set up well.

RE: Ziroli Turbinator Pics
Thanks Ron....I'll have to give Nick a call because I'm very interested in the two piece wing version....
Tell us Todd...Did the little birdy tell you if the ARF will be the turbine version or the electric???...Sure would be nice if a turbine ARF Turbinator would pop up on the scene!!!....
I'm going to build this for a 12lb thrust turbine with an eye on keeping it as light as possible...Ziroli's Turbinator came in between 20 and 22 lbs but his was painted...I plan on film covering for mine and possible fixed gear as this will be a trainer for my son and whom ever club pilots want to take a turn at the buddy box sticks to try out their jet legs. I'm going to make the fixed gear removable so that retracts can be fitted at a later date...

I've heard that as well from Nick but we have yet to see or hear anything further ffrom the company that is supposed to do it. Thanks for the nice words Jimmy but not that much in the tx for mixes other than some down elevator with flaps and with full flaps I raise the ailerons 1/4" to add more washout. Everyone should have a pit man like Jim. I never have to worry about where the other planes are when I'm flying; he could give a class on what a spotter should do when they are helping someone. The turbinator-e kits are on the way.

Kevin, if you go to this thread, the one that Ron mention you will find almost all the pictures that I got so far on my build.

RE: Ziroli Turbinator Pics
I realise this isn't the right post for the EDF version but given it has been mentioned I thought I would add my two cents worth. Have just finished scratch building the EDF version and have now flown it 5 times. The plans weren't perfect in terms of symmetricality (is that a word?) however it was easily sorted out. It is my first EDF and is a dream to fly with amazing slow speed stability. I have powered it with the Wemotec Minifan and Typhoon 2W20 motor on 3200mAh 4S cells and it has HET retracts. Total weight is 1500gms. I added a 6" thrust tube (not pictured) after the first flight and that made a huge difference to acceleration. I have attached a picture, sorry for my lack of imagination with regard to the colour scheme but I did like Nick's choice in this regard so decided to copy it.

When I built mine I put split flaps on it. They work great and slow the plane down, landings are easy. If you're pitch sensative it sounds like your CG is too far back. If you can't get it to slow down you need to add more flap. Standard flaps need to drop way down to provide much drag.
