Are you pulling on the wire as you slide the jacket over the plug and push it down? Many of the connectors have a spring loaded contact with the plug that has to be pulled back from contact with the stem of the plug so the assembly will slide fully onto the plug. Otherwise it will not lock on.

I have found the weak point in the system is the little copper tube imbedded in the boot. At the opposite end of the wire inside the boot, the copper tube comes together in two little points. If those two points are deformed or do not touch together, it will allow the glow plug stem to slip out of the boot. Make sure the copper points are pushed together and in contact with each other to insure they will grab the glow plug stem when the springy wire is released.
I have found a 5/8" glow plug adapter made by McDaniel Sonic-Tronics that will twist and lock and I have used it on D/F glow engines as a remote ignitor. If I have continued problems with the boot not staying on, I think I may go with the twist and lock adaptor. See

They work best with plugs that have the little knob on top. The McCoy plugs don't have the knob and can be a pain.

Cut a little (about 1/16") from the bottom of the rubber boot. It makes the thing easier to put on and it stays on.

I have yet to have a glow plug connector on a turbine that wasn't a pain in the arse to put on. With all the advances we've seen in turbine jet modeling, why can't somebody design a decent plug boot :P

I asked the same question months ago. 10K jets with pos $2 glow plug connectors. You would think the turbine manufacturers would provide one that is actually made for glow plugs..

This solution has worked best in the past for this problem.
