I bought my first jet recently and then I went and bought some Mobil Jet II oil to use with it. Well, a started to read more about jet oils and I really don't like what I am reading about the effects of organo phosphates on our health that the jet oil has.
Some people have used successfully Mobil DTE Light which I want to use after I finish the Jet II that I have.
My question is: Where do you guys buy this oil locally? I found a few places where I can order it, but would like to buy locally if possible. Other people mentioned another Chevron brand oil that is similar to Mobil DTE Light. Anybody knows exactly what this oil is called?
Anybody uses anything else?
PS. I know what JetCat recommends, and I would use that if it wasn't that bad for our health. Even if the turbine requires more repairs using an alternate oil, I would gladly spend some money on that than ending up with health problems and then no money can fix it.

I have only ever used 2 stroke oil to TCW3 specs. It is much cheaper & less toxic.
Over the years I have had Jetcats, Simjets, & Wrens. Never had an oil related problem in thousands of flights.

I've been using Aeroshell 560, but had no idea how bad this stuff was. At high temp it's a nerve gas! I'd like to know if there's any viable alternatives as well. I sure won't be walking behind my jet any longer.

I also use 560 from aeroshell. Usually get it online.

I personally do not use it, but do know one guy that has been using Amsoil (Saber) for awhile and has had zero problems. He heard about it from other jet flyers, so apparently he is not the only one using it. I also do not know if it is any more or less toxic than the oils you are trying to replace, but it may be something to check out.

Kinda like drinking too much milk will give you cancer. What they didn't tell you is that they fed rats 24 hours a day for 10 years. That's the equivalent of a human drinking ten gallons a day for a lifetime. If you sit behind your turbine all the while it's running, just sniffing away, sure you're going to get something! Maybe sick? But have peace of mind, that will wear off!

Man, I asked a serious question, and I expected a serious answer.

The fact that the Jet Cat mothership has not endorsed DTE lite suggests they have not or don't want to take the time to validate the use of an alternative oil with fewer personal health issues. I'm fairly certain there are plenty of Jet Cat turbines out there being fed a diet of DTE Lite without Bob Wilcox's knowledge or consent.

Good luck in your search for an acceptable source of DTE Lite - like others have, I suspect you'll end up buying a 5 gal. container of it from a catalog source here in the CONUS.

Thanks a lot Mike. It looks like I cannot find it locally, so I will have to order it online somewhere. Will use Mobile Jet II what I already bought and after that DTE Light.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Jascat,
I am with you on that. After discussing the issue at length with a very experienced home builder/service guy/full size aircraft engineer/jet pilot, I have been using TCW3 spec two stroke outboard oil at 2% for a while now with no issues. My health and that of my young family are far more important than a couple of turbine bearings, even if there was a difference in the long term, and I am far from convinced that there is. Warranties these days are not with *****. Most of us buy our turbines and have them sit there for a year or more while we are building anyway. I have a number of Jetcat turbines (P60, P70, P80, 2x120's) and a simjet 3000....they all get fed the same stuff!
It does not make sense to use turbine oil (which was not designed to be burned), in a miniature turbine just because it is a turbine. Different applications than the full size. By that logic jetcat engines should be lubed with grape juice because they have a purple front cover, and wren should be fed apple juice! I am being OTT now but the point is why not use an oil which will do the job AND was designed to be burned, without the toxic efflux?
Craig.

If the iol is used to lubricate the bearings, WHYYYYY don't engine manufacturers recomend LESS toxic oils??????????????????
and WHYYY could't we use synthetics also. We are the ones buying the turbines, and deserve to be recommended materials
that doesn't contaminate the air so much. If there are other guys using other types of oils, they should be heard also.

If these guys deal with mobil & can get DTE heavy they can most likely order you DTE light. Even your local Mobil gas station could probably order it for you, has anyone bothered to ask?
In Oz Mobil specialised lubricants (not car type oils) are handled by independent distributors. I had to buy 20 litres & pay for delivery but even then it was 1/5 the price of jet oil. John.

I haven't used it but I have a buddy that I fly with that switched to it. It seems to be working out for him
