12x Throttle Ratchet
Has anyone installed a JRPA635 throttle ratchet in their 12X?....if so any tips or problems to avoid in opening up the 12x case to access the throttle gimbal?
Thanks for any info...........hate to send transmitter back to Horizon to have it done

RE: 12x Throttle Ratchet
I am a sissy, I went ahead and sent mine back in. I didn't want to take any chances. It was a quich turn around though. They received it on December 3rd and I get it back today. Not too bad. Plus I sent in about 4 receivers to be updated.

In the very first post of the 12x thread at http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_82...tm.htm#8247423
John Redman makes this statement......
"One other note for 12X owners. Please do not open the case of hte radio to check something out or such. If when opening the radio you do not follow a very prescribed program you will damage some of hte PC boards which pulls the traces off the boards. The end result is close to a $300 repair bill to fix the radio."
I would send it in.

If you send your radio in for a software update, make sure you back-up your models. Fortunately I did, because when I got my radio back, it was wiped CLEAN!!

Twu dogs: is this radio still covered by warranty???
If I were you, I would'nt open it. It will void it if you had to send it for anything. As
the guys said before , it would cost less to send it.
Just my 2 cents.

I thought the 12X is updatable via PC download?

No, they are not PC upgradable.......that would be nice though!
Craig,
The receivers were older 6, 7, and 9 channel receivers that did not have the quick re-boot in them. All in all, it was pretty painless.

RE: 12x Throttle Ratchet
I got one when they first came out and Horizon shipped me a ratchet piece to install. I did it myself but I would highly recommend sending it in rather than opening it. There is very little room to open it without pulling the ribbon cables off the pc boards. Thats all okay but trying to put them back on with only about a 1/2" of the case seperated is very tedious not to mention the dozen or so screws that need removed to do it. In the end it took about three tries and a blown fuse. It is not worth it. I just sent it in for the upgrade and to look it over to make sure all is still well.
It definately is not easy like some of the older 4-6 channel radios we used to open up. It should be left to the guys that do it everyday.
Just my two cents. I would send it in if I had to do it over again.
