Default On JET flying Surfaces do you use Metal or Plastic arms?

In the expensive environment of a Jet, with Heat, weight, and Speed. What is best material for servo output arms?

I use JR HD Servo Arms which are plastic but larger than stock.

The problem with metal is that they are very hard to insert / remove or has a side screw. In my opinion, this is yet another point of failure so unless heat is an issue, I use JR HD Servo Arms.

HI all, always used the supplied plastic servo arms that came with the servo, never a problem, and they are also shown in all BVM instructions.

Ditto this, on my velox elevator I use a hitec 1.5" arm in cases of hotstarts. Otherwise I use the HD Hitec or JR arms.

Pete...
BVM has started using metal arms on some surfaces. The Ultra Bandit uses Hangar 9 aluminum arms on the ailerons and flaps.
My Ultra Bandit has aluminum arms on all control surfaces, as well as the nosegear steering. Plastic arms are installed on the retract and brake valves.

I started using aluminum arms on all of my jets after a JR heavy duty arm (JRPA 215) stripped the splines on a KingCat aileron.....that was enough to convince me that the plastic arms are not good enough. That was about two years ago. Fortunately, that happened prior to flight.

$80.00 worth of aluminum arms is pretty cheap insurance on a $7,500.00 jet.

I think it depends on the application but i like the Dubro HD plastic arms for my first choice. IMO If you are not using a threaded ball link on the metal arm there will be MORE play than using some type of plastic arm.

This surprises Me, I wonder what the big Boys are using. ALI, Shulman, and those guys.

Seems a little counter productive to me for the Manufacture to put metal arms and Metal Ball links, Both ends of a Push Pull, on a 1.5 1/2 scale flying stab, and Hook it to a piece of Plastic. But Hay Maybe I listen to T Cook too often.

I always try to use one of the plastic servo horns supplied with the servo. I have never had one fail. I have had the white JR servo horns turn yellow after a few years. Thanks for doing the poll.

For a metal clevis I use plastic. For ball links I use metal arms.

I had Metal on the pneumatic valves in my first jet, but in am working on an f-15. Ill guess it is OK to use other material arms on that stuff for sure.
