Default Jet-Tronics valves - question

I'm currently building a Skygate Hawk and have started to plan the equipment layout. Supplied are Jet-Tronics valves, the newer silver coloured versions.

Here lies the dilemma, the new versions have a lightweight plastic base plate into which 3mm barbed connectors are supplied factory fitted (and sealed) as standard, great for installations where 3mm air line is used, not great for 4mm air line systems :-(
OK so I could put 4mm to 3mm reducers on the lines, but seems a little crazy reducing the air line width just to suit the valves, being big cylinders 4mm line would seem preferable throughout.

I remember the older JT valves had a metal base plate with M5 threaded holes, you could then screw in any SMC/Festo fitting to suit your requirements, seemed a more practical solution albeit with a little heavier valve.

So can the newer valves be changed? Does anyone have some 'new' older valves (metal base) for sale/swap? Am I just being too fussy and should just stick reducers in?

I think mine have two sets of barbs on the nipples, a pair for 3mm and a pair for 4mm close to the body?

So do mine, good luck programming them Marc, better luck than I'm having anyway! Gary.

Well spotted guys, indeed they do have, the barbs close to the body for the 4mm don't give you much room for capture, or safety wiring, but will test them out.
Still prefer the older style though! Anyone want to swap? (old version for new)

No! I have 4mm tube on some of the JT valves, never lock wired them (never had a leak) Try pulling the tube off after fitting!

Dave, have you had any problems with the new j valve retract and new dual brake valves?
I got some from you in November, just using them and having a lot of problems.
Mine seem to have a mind of their own, I have the older type in other jets and they are fine, bad batch perhaps or is it just me?
Gary.

Dave, good to hear they hold fast.

Sorry, just back!

Not had any problems recently. Call and I'll talk you though the set up to test the valve and check it's not a radio thing (most common) I use the monitor to check the channel is switching.
If you can't talk daytime pm me a number and I'll call in the evening.
Did you try a reset and start again?

regards

Dave

Thanks Dave,

Yes, tried several resets, talking radio you may well be right, I think I've cracked the brake one tonight, plugged a servo in and noticed there was no brake channel movement until about 85% down elevator so I reprogrammed the mix and it seems obviously to take it's switching points better although it is sometimes intermittent in operation.
I'll ring you tomorrow regarding retract valve, even though programmed correctly after switch rc off/on sometimes it doesn't react at all and sometimes it (worryingly) brings the gear up and locks up until a reset, even though the gear switch was in down command at switch off.

Anyway, thanks very much for replying, talk to you tomorrow,

Regards,
Gary.

Gary

2.4gHz? Bound system before valve was set up? Always re bind after set up on retracts etc...good idea to do it throughout build/set up.
You may have had it reversed and you can get a gear cycle as it boots up.

Marc,

My Hawk came with 4mm Orbit valves. The ID of the barbs is larger than the standard 3mm. They work great! You might want to consider replacing the Jetronics with Orbit valves. You'll get the full benefit of the 4mm line. I just ordered a couple more for another project, so they are still available.

David S

The photo is a side by side comparison of a 3mm between to 4mm nipples. Quite a difference!

I'll try that Dave, it doesn't do it every time though, just occasionally.

When you order you can select the fitting type! I was eyeing these for my Tomahawk.

Cheers,
Mark

Marc,

Same valve. Made by Orbit Electronics.
