Do You Guys...?
Hey,
Do you guys ever use the stock servo arms for jets? If so, in what applications? How strong have you found the stock white plastic JR arms to be?

Stock arms with most servos no, I only use the Super servo arm which has a bigger boss and is thicker. Also the std arm once it starts to "brown" becomes brittle.

only for brake and gear valves. I also use them for wheel steering. I don't want to waste expensive aluminum servo arms on these items since its not necessary. Everything else YES!

I also have Tam's F-16 and use stock arms for gear, brake, gear doors and nose steering. On the elevons I use aluminum arms on 2 - DS8411 and in the tail I have an HD arm. Go at least HD if not aluminum. They cost $18 for 2 including shipping...well worth the investment IMO.
Here is were I got those aluminum arms - www.quickuk.eu/cat/general_parts/servo_arms___wheels.html

I use the heavy duty JR arms on almost everything, however, I still use the dubro quik link clevis's too. I don't want the metal to metal contact, I don't use ball links if I can avoid it and honestly, we overpower our flight surfaces so dramatically in most cases the servo arm doesn't NEED to be metal.
I can honestly say I have never had a servo horn fail, or one of the quik link clevis's. I've never had the plastic arm strip from the spline, never had the hole give out or had the arm break. My Kingcat, Raptor, and under Tom's recommendation, Firebird all have the plastic JR arms on them.

Another thing to consider, nylon dries out and becomes very brittle in dry climates such as Denver and other desert areas. A nylon arm that may be very good when new can become very brittle as time passes.
I recently mounted the wing on a T-28 I hadn't flown in approx 1 1/2 yrs. I tightened the nylon wing screw the normal amount, walked a few feet away and heard a "ping" and found the head of the 1/4-20 screw had popped off.
Nylon props, wing screws, servo arms and nylon servo gears can all dry out. We used to boil our nylon props if they laste over a year to restore the moisture. I haven't tried it with servo arms. I did a test boil on some wing screws the other day and they got so flexible that I couldn't install them in a tight mounting hole.

Shawn,
I have used the stock arms (JR 8411/8611/8711) on every plane I have had. From the POS Velox, to my Ultra Bandit, and everything in-between. Never had a problem (yet, I guess).

RE: Do You Guys...?
My Kingcat has all nylon servo arms on it . I did not build it , but I believe it was built acording to the BVM Kingcat manual . I did have one on one side of the split elevator get deformed from a wet start .
