Default JR Matchbox question

Does anybody know what happen in case of a failure, does it freeze the servo in a preset position, a hold position or anything else?

thanks
Forent

I would expect that like pretty much ALL electronics, there are multiple failure modes with multiple consequences. A preset position seems unlikely, but I would expect to see many different possible results ranging from a 'jittering' servo to an undriven servo (no power)

I have a 30% toc extra 260 and I am thinking of putting one on the elevators. Because I think the servos are not working at the same rate and they are off? I have other extras but much smaller and my last big plane was a giles 202. The 30% extra does stuff like flips out of a loop and will dive out of a right turn but not a left turn. Can anybody help????? Thanks Eric

i just put one on my electra for flaps, first time using it seems to work just fine and has many other cool uses. i think if i had the extra channels i would have prefer to do it that way but it's done.

have not had a flight test yet, but I'm sure it will work just fine, if it ever fails i think it will be real easy to figure out what happened

I have used JR Matchboxes on a variety of surfaces; elevators, elvons, canards, etc.. and have even used one to drive the four big flaps on my MIBO A-10. Never had a problem with any of them. Concur with Gordon that different failure modes are possible but I have no idea which ones since I have never had a failure of any type.

If the mixes in your radio are set up right for the 30%, then a matchbox wont help. Your mechanical setup is off. put them on a y cord and see if they track together closely just as a test. the subtrim might be off a bit. the linkages have to be the same length as do the posts and arms, and in the same geometric orientation. Once they track closely, then plug them separately into the radio and mix them 100% and subtrim them to align, then look at your tracking to see if its exact. If it tracks perfectly but it still dishes out, you could have a weak servo or a twist in the airframe.

If its the servo, buy two of the same and start over.

Match box low battery cut of is higher than your receiver. Found out this when I forget to turn off my plane, 30min later only the surface that was not connected to the match box still works.

P.S running (NICAD Battery at the time)I guess that would answer your Freezing question.

Smart-Flys equalizer II works the same as the matchbox at a fraction of the cost. The main difference is that the Equalizer does not have a case around it.
The operating volts of Equalizer is 4.0 - 7.25 volts

OK thanks, I was a bit reluctant to put one on the elevators, but I'm running out of channels...
