Futaba 9151 and 9301, good enough for DPM Extra on 45cc?
Hi all
I'm looking into getting a 2nd DPM Extra from my buddy. He has flown it with DA50 on 3x9151 servo on Rudder/elevator (9.5kg torque each) and 4x9301 on the wing. 2 servo for each aileron as per what DPM recommended. The 9301 is 69oz each. All of these are non metal gear.
My buddy has not fly this plane long enough, say prolly less than 15 flights? and he is not an aggresive flyers.
So my question is the servo strong enough ie not being Metal gear and all? Also I will be using Venom 45cc so the AUW is prolly around 15-16lbs.
Any thought?

The 9151 on rudder/elevator is 132oz while the wing will have a total of 138oz (69x2). Torquewise is there, but what about the gear? Are they able to hold up or MG is a better choice...

the 1st generation DP Extra did not have any issue; however, when he released the 2nd version and later everyone was having flutter issues on the ailerons so def use metal gear there. Back in the day all big planes used nylon geared servos as that was all that was avail.

Good thought! The DPM Extra I'm looking is definitely 2nd gen as its lighter and have mod for 4 servo aileron wing!

GC
Well I need to get more info on the Extra as I already took ownership of the plane from my buddy yesterday. As I'm doing some internal check, I realised the elevator is incidence adjustable. Any idea what the starting angle?
This 2nd gen Extra is really light. With all servo mounted without engine, ignition pack, and rx batt, its only 11lbs!! I expect AUW to be less than 15lbs. I will most likely get 4xHitec 645MG for the wing. Its rated at 120+oz each!
What engine you using with that MK1? BTW, my buddy retrim the extra to look really wild. Will try to get a snap for it soon!

The stab is adjustable from + 1 0 -1 start off with it being at zero.
the wings should also be zero.
When the fin is being gluded on DP recommend to turn it slightly to put a degree in the fin to help with less Right rudder being needed for up lines.
The firewall is also zero. The plane flies very true with those settings.
I ran a Brison 3.2 on a 22 x 8 Mejzlik or Menz on mine. Yes it ballasitic with that kind of power. I think i came in at high 16 lbs range.
I do not recall what is the balance point on the plane but the 1st one came out pretty conserveative around 5.25". I think he changed that on later kits. I think i moved up to around 6.25" to 6.75" to get a inverted flight being hands off.
Knife Edge is strong
Flat Spins are strong
IMAC stuff is strong
Snaps are strong
Landing will drop off all of a sudden if you get to slow, nothing crazy just all of a sudden the last few inches will run off if the throttle is not blipped.

I started off using 5625 on the elevators, jr 8411 on the rudder, and 5645 hitec on the ailerons. After about 50 flights I changed to JR 8411 on those surfaces and later put a 8611 on the rudder. Ran a hitec 605 on the throttle. Mine is only cut for one aileron servo.
I have ran d-lights, nmhi and fromoc batteries. I run a 16oz fuel tank easy 12-15 minutes flights. I also rebuilt the canopy area as the 1st batch required you to remove it each flight to install the wings. I also have the wings on a dowel that has been put into the wing that bolts to the wing tube.

Is the wing incidence adjustable? Mine does not seems to be. Mine is MkII. The wing is only secured with 1 nylon bolt on the wing root. There is no other way like what you did on the aluminium tube.

one bolt will hold the wing, i just did not want to have to take the hatch off and on to install the wing. my showtime and EF Yak are only secured by one nylon bolt and the wing dowel or dowels. The wing is not adjustable. Just make sure you are at zero and not have a factory defect.
