Noob Crawler with WK
I'm a noob when it comes to crawling so I had this WK and am tired of riding wheelies. When I found the HPI tutorial I though "I can do that" so Here's some info and pics on my WK. I'll update as I go, hardest thing has really been sorting out what size,dimensions,part numbers to get for various things.
Mine started out as a 4WD with a intellispeed esc that I had put in and a 20 turn motor.
Step one was to replace motor and use a 55 t integy.
Step 2 was to install rear locker (very much needed)
3 install front locker (won't steer any more)
Reverse the chassis (steering is worse now)
4 Use a stronger servo (better, but still no good)
Try some Talon tires (not much good)
Stock tires on narrow wheels and use them backwards (works pretty good)
Use lipo batery (too light)
Pics with talons

I still need to stretch wheelbase, but did use some traxxas links on the rear to get a touch more length using the stock driveshafts. It's not much , but here's pics with the 75 turn motor, stock tires and 6:1 ratio gears. It does a lot better now .
Qestions: is there a rule for width on a 2.2 crawler?
Do you think I would be a lot better to use th lightweight battery and then add the weight to the tires with bb's? It seems to do better with the heavy battery.

well once you lock the front your steering does get worse its that good old push pull thing but you really do need difs locked and as far as a width rule goes it only counts on your tires and wheels you have to run a 2.2 if you run a bigger tire and wheel than a 2.2 than you will have to run in the super class as far as the battery weight if you like the way it runs leave it be

Alright, thanks for the rules update, I'm keeping with 2.2 and 12.5 inch WB (it is still 10" right now)
On the battery my thiking is that if it likes the extra weight then it might as well be inside the front tires instead of high up in the chassis, does that make sense?
The worst thing about it is the steering really is no good, I'm using a 80-100 tork servo and all stock linkages.

well im running two ax10,s and myn are stock the only thing i did to myn was slide the pack farther forward and it seems to work great that way im not to shure if you can move your pack that far forward if at all as i dont have a wk well yet anyway i have one on the way lol and for the steering my ax10 turns in about 8 foot but when im on rocks or logs it will turn in about 1 foot or less youl get used to it

the ax10 is a nice truck and its not bad to put together total i have about 8 hours into the first one the shocks kind of suck but they work lol just take you time with it and the kit will be good to you if you try to go fast you will have to go back and change things and look at the picks close oh and dont use the servo arms that come in the kit they really suck i striped them out in the first 5 min in the house lol there to stiff the stock tires work great but there not worth a crap in dirt so be ready

If you are having troubles with the crazy stock steering setup than you need to get a CKRC Servo on Axle Steering Mount. This moves the servo down to the axle. It helps ALOT! They also have alot of other great WK crawler parts.... plus they are my LHS. They are great. The owner even went to the nationals!!!

Yep, they are calling it "track width" but it is really overall width. I notice a 6" max diameter tire. I find a lot of 5.5" tires and it's a wonde that no-one is making tires right up to the max. Nice rules anyways. I'll try to stay within them so I can be standard. Ha, first time for that.

I use a 3cell lipo in my maxxcrawler and needed to add 8 wheel weights in each front rim, making 16 in total, at 25 grams each, adding 400 grams to the front end to pull me up the stairs nicely.

Mine still won't climb concrete steps. Maybe it never will.
Won't the weight inside the bottoms of the tires be a better choice then on the wheeel?
ps I just put in an instant esc since I had a bad delay going to reverse. Now I just got to get rid of radio servo glitching when motor is running.

Pics with stretched rear and Pro-line Moabs, not real impressed with either one. Here's also what happened to my wheels. The axle pins started spinning i them and that's with unglued stock tires. My wheelbase is now about 12.5 , It almost did better with 10" WB. Most trouble is stock steering and ground clearance.

Her's something I don't quite get. It is the narrow wheels, tires and track idea. I guess I just blindly used narrow wheels cuz that's what seemed to be the ticket.
I however think that a wider vehicle and tire would do a lot better than skinny tires and wheels. IN otherwords, leave the outside of the tires to max width and then allow the extra tire width to extend inside as required. The only tthing I can think of as narrow track is that it makes the steering better and makes the diff case hit less, but I find it just tips over too easy.

Third pic shows the servo hitting the chassis, and the tire. I had hoped to buy the engineering already done, but have to cut the plate twice to make it work. and then cut the chassis too. I can'r imagine it working real well on a stock wheel base. [:'(]
