Default One Eighth Air Force event pics

A few static shots from Saturday at the One Eighth Air Force event in Phoenix, Arizona. Good turn out and very nice temps but a bit breezy in the afternoon. In no particular order.

Nice shooting Jerry, thanks. I don't have the proper equipment for in-flight shots unfortunately.

Hi
Great photo's, looks like the event was a blast to attend. The only thing is I was very disappointed to see so many ARF's It's sad there are so many R/C fliers who won't spend the time to make there own airplane. There's much more pride and enjoyment out of a model that one has built himself. Hats off to those of you who attended with a built up scale model!

That is one of the hard parts of living in an area where you fly year round. No building season. Hopefully there will be a new generation of modeler to pick up the torch of old time builders like Ken Perkins. He scratched the Bellanca and Claude in Chads photos. It wont be me, I will be out flying

Jerry, please photoshop out my hanging gear door, thanks in advance

TK,

I did not get shots of anywhere near all the models at the event and there were other kit built birds out there. Having said that, there were still probably 3 ARFs for every 1 kit built model. (Maybe more!) There were several ARFs that had been very nicely re-finished and a few more that had at least a modicum of "customizing" done to them to make them stand out from the crowd. The P6E Hawk shown in my pictures above (#10 down) was particularly impressive and started out as a Great Planes ARF. I'm proud to say I attended with two built up models, one from a kit and one from my own plans. However, I too have been bitten by the ARF bashing bug and have already re-done several and have several more waiting in the wings! Some times it is very hard to pass up some of the really good deals on the newer crop of scale ARFs and they can make a great "canvas" in many cases. I do lament at the reduced number of built up birds at this event though. It wasn't THAT long ago that the OEAF events were packed full of truly fantastic kit and scratch built models and it was one of the prime venues in the West for competitors to debut there new scale competition birds. Those were some of the very best shows I ever attended. I suppose those days are probably gone forevor.

Great static shots Chad, when you want the F6F 2K photographed airborne give me a call. I can meet you at either AMPS or the new(400 Ft limit) SVF... Would have attended with the Static FG 1D but did not want to take up table space ...

How about this one? Or is this the full-scale plane shot at Luke AFB over the weekend?

Thanks Joe, much appreciated. I had the Hellcat on display over the weekend but it's not quite ready to fly yet. Give me another month and it should be ready to go. I'd like to get some stick time on it before the summer heat gets here!

That was a Killer Stuka Chad. Do you have any Specs on it, and who does it belong to ?

I'm pretty sure the Stuka is a Ziroli design Ed and it belongs to Jim Lynch from Tucson, AZ.
