Default painting and road wheels

how do you take off the road wheels on your tanks? i'm starting to paint my StuG III and this might pose a bit of a challenge.

No need to remove them. Stand the tank on the side, use a brush and rotate the inner wheel to make a clean paint job. This will prevent repainting the rubber tire sections.

On the asiatam lower hull you will have set screws on the swing arms that hold the axles in place. Simply loosen them and remove the road wheel with axle as a unit.

You can also use a spray can for the entire lower hull.....to repaint the rubber portions....so the same with paint brush and rotating the inner wheels for a smooth paint job. Trick with wheels removed is to insert a paint brush end into the axle hole and rotate the wheel while holding the brush to it.

A good quality paint works best to return the "rubber" road wheels to natural black (i.e. camo overspray), but I've also used a black Sharpie permanent marker on my road wheels in a pinch.

If you use acrylic paint then just blast the tank with paint (I am assuming you are using an airbrush) and then use an q-tip wetting with rubbing alcohol and rub it against the outer wheel (the black part) This will remove the acrylic paint but not the "pre" painted black rubber. Its easy and it works great.

Some Heng Long wheels are molded in Black . I paint those and then just remove the paint back to the black molding material.

nice tip.....I have also used alcohol to remove fresh paint, but it always needs a touchup. Hey, whatever works!
