Complete Beginner Seeking Assistance
So ah, I'm a 15 year old. I've had some experience with driving RC Cars and Tanks, but only have recently begun thinking about building them.
Of course, I don't expect to build a moving tank after a week or two of getting started. But, where do I get started?
I'm thinking I should start simple and just make an RC "flat-car" (a board with wheels on the sides and some basic electronics to power/move it)?
Anyways, does anyone know a good book or website (preferably book) that can help me get started on my quest to create a Jagdtiger? AFTER I master the basics of course.
Obviously, I'm not going to try to create a turreted tank for my first attempt, just a tank destroyer.<br type="_moz" />

For what you would spend on the parts to build your own tank from scratch you could actually buy a RTR Heng Long JagdPanther or Stug if a Self Propelled gun is what you really want. Any turreted tank could be bought for the same price range and they are actually much easier to get used to battling with that a fixed gun vehicle.

Yes, I could, but there's a satisfaction from just building it up from parts instead of just getting it ready-made. It's like the satisfaction an artist would get from his work.

To build from scratch, you will either need a very good ability to fabricate all the parts, plus equipment to do so. If building something is what you are looking to do, your options are to buy a tamiya kit and build it, or buy parts seperately from Phil at RC tank wars. Get the Asaitam lower hull, an HL upper hull and whatever electronics you want to go with and have at it.

A Tamiya kit huh... well, I guess I should familiarize myself with the layout and stuff before actually trying to build one from scratch.

The HL RTR's can be a "canvas" for a lot of creative work, such as this before and after picture of a King Tiger.
Too bad you're a ways away from the Can Am RC Tank Club in the Niagara area, we are just about to start the 2012 outdoor season, everone is welcome to come and check it out. http://can-amrctankclub.blogspot.ca/

The beauty of our hobby is you can do as little or as much as you want in it. However, setting your sights on a Jagdtiger may be a bit much for a newbie. While the beast may look simple and square, it is anything but.
I would suggest starting with a relatively simple tank to start. What you get depends on the depth of you pocket. For the higher end a Tamiya Sherman kit is the easiest to start with, and with the dozens of Sherman variants developed both during and after the war, the possibilities are endless. For a less expensive ready to run RC Tank, I'm sure some of the lads here will pitch in with their ideas. Heng Long and Matto are the goodest for RTR.
Here's a couple pics of both a JT and a Sherman variant.
