Default Pershing .50 cal Browning

What's with the HL .50 cal Browning on the Pershing? I'm almost done detailing and weathering the tank and I then turn to the machine gun thinking it's all down hill from here. I break off the ammo box and move it to the proper location. Then I try to mount it back on the pedestal. The ammo box now interferes with the movement of the gun up and down. Ugg.

So I start looking for a replacement. $60 + shipping for the metal one at Tankzone.uk doesn't seem to make sense for a $67 tank. Axel's has the Tamiya sprues for about $12.

So, I've ordered the Tamiya .50 cal sprues from the Pershing and hope that this one will mount better and look more realistic. Anyone else gone this route. Anything I should know before I start putting it together? Thanks.

I drilled the side of the ammo box and the side of the .50cal and used a brass rod with some glue to space the ammo from the gun about 1mm. Now it can move freely and you don't see the brass rod. If you want it to look even better you should make a ammo box frame with some scrap plastic or brass.

I scratch built the feed tray and modified the mount on mine. Those brass ones look cool but not that cool for $50!

I just took a small cutout from my pedestal mount and it all works fine.

You can also use an Ultimate Soldier 1/18 Browning from an M48 or Walker.

Agreed on the 'Go Tamiya' route.

Last time I bought the sprues from Karen at the AAF they ran $7.50 and shipping each.
I took all 5 sprues she had in stock. Think I have 8 laying about here now. A few will end up on my LAV's.

They are gorgeous, and I don't see ANY reason to go metal at those rediculous prices (unless someone is a complete klutz and breaks it all the time)
