does anyone have any links to what this should look like from my refererence matirial i know there was as least 3 different variations but i cant work out how to proceed any ideas?

no-one? i cannot tell if the 3rd (widest)ring is a part of the component or an un-textured weld as this part changed shape over the course of production i also lack any clear shots of this part from the side

I just looked through TIGERS IN COMABAT I and II and A MODELLERS GUIDE TO THE TIGER TANK and from what I see the vision slit is a simple round over with a slit in it.
I'm still looking at some other stuff so hang on.

Oh now I like that Idea! And you are right not having an airbrush is in a way a blessing for doing that whitewash.
Here is what I have done on 1/35 scale TIGERs. Over the base coat use a wide brush and dab on the white. I assume you are using arylics. Give it about five minutes to dry just a bit, then go back with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol and gently swab and remove the wash till it looks great!
You'll have a hoot!
