Nice work,,

This morning I did some trimming added the left side formers and finished up the bottom,, need to take a break and get more glue, the bottle is getting low, I'll finish up the planking later today.

Had enough CA after all,, in case anyone is curious, the method I used is, run the glue down the length of the planks and CA the planks to the formers. This gives you the working time of Glue, with the not needing to pin, which doesn't hold well on these compound curves anyway. Every now and then the planks don't want to align,, a little scrap does the trick nicely. No worries,, it all gets sanded smooth, that why I us 1/8 balsa,, plenty of meat to sand off

I've used the same process before, but just CA-ing the planks to the formers, and then wick thin CA to bond the planks to each other,, that is quicker, but makes my eyes water and,, well I was out of thin CA

I'll give it a couple hours to dry, might be able to work on the tip/tail blocks later tonight,, I plan to use foam for those this time

Did some shaping of the foam,,, I need to add foam to the supports to give it a little more of the scale shape instead of just the profile.

Did a little gluing up and dremel work, pics tell the story, Slow cure epoxy and 410 filler do a good job of filling the voids in the foam wing

Did some sanding, Cut open the servo hatch and got the mounting screws set up,, going to be a busy few weeks, so I may have to put this on the back burner for a while. Might be a few weeks before I get to do any more building.

This little handheld countersink set up makes it easy to cut into the balsa with out going too deep like you may with a drill motor, once the holes are right,, this CA does a nice job of strengthening the balsa

Nice job! Kitchen looks good especially what appears to be Copper Canyon granite? Persian Brown.....anyway looks great. The system 3 clear has worked well for you over latex?
Curious as I used Nelsons clear I wonder if it is the same type..

Thanks, I can't remember what the called it off the top of my head, we found a small shop who had many unique and exotic slabs, we like it, it was worth the extra $$

I tested it with some 30% car fuel I had and it was still hard as a rock.

p.s.
Are the pictures showing up?? all I see are blank boxes

Got the blue and the systems3 topcoat, still needs the red safety stripe, will add that later, but I flew it today, motor ran great,, found a hole in the vent line, that's what must have caused the dead stick last year. three flawless flights today. Plane is about 1.5lbs lighter with the new float, flew great.

A few people were taking shots, I'll link those when I can.

Thanks,, it was fun to fly again,, I think that 1.5lbs off the float made a big difference,, a good running engine made a huge difference.

ps
The Olympic Premium from Lowes is not as nice going on as the Behr,, I had bought that and used it again, but in the future I'll stick with Behr,, it thins and sprays much easier.

ps on the top Coat,
I had failed to get enough top coat on the tab that goes into the fuse, the nitro ate that area instantly, but the rest of the float is hard as a rock that was exposed to the 20-20 fuel.. I'm sold on the Systems Three for sure

So I see I never updated this thread. Last summer I had a little mishap on take off,, the plane caught an edge, and the main float supports broke

The rebuild begins,, again

No biggie,, Yes I have plenty of practice fixing this one,,, LOL

I'm thinking I originally finished it up in '95, Bought our first house in '96 and I built it before we moved there.

Only question now is do I convert it to the dle 20,, trying to move away from nitro,,,, we'll see

Might want to consider an evolution 20cc. Don't have to deal with the rear mounted carb, may be easier to do a drop in replacement.

The dle 20 dropped right in replacing the ys 120 I had on another plane,, I don't think the carb clearance should be a problem

The lone seaplane poster strikes again, sad how dead RCU has become

Glass sanded and in primer, one more light primer and it's ready for paint

Wing tip mounts epoxied and filled,, a little light sanding and that's ready for paint too.

Main float attach point needs a little work, so I opened up that area, will tidy that up tonight

Well lets see what we can do to alleviate that Scale . I must confess while I have not read this whole thread I I do love Kingfishers and have admired Yours from afar. Think currently have flying five float planes one of which is a single float type.

Thanks John, I've never had the chance to bring it to London Bridge, but have wanted to, maybe next year.
