Default Weedeaters vs Chainsaws

is there any reasion why weedeater engines are more popular than chainsaws?

Arnt chainsaws more powerfull?

is it easy to convert all output drives to shafts?, i hear the homelites have a square drive, i think most chainsaws have a thread? is it also possible to convert this?

Thanks.

Chainsaws spin the wrong way!! It will be hard to find stuff that spins clockwise.

Most chainsaws run in the opposite direction of what is really needed in a boat. There is flex cable available but you are really limited on props. They don't work well with being used in racing applications because of the torque, this is why we race clockwise. There are probably a host of other reasons why they aren't used.

It really depends on what side of the motor you take your drive from. I had two chainsaws in a boat that I took the flex cable through the starter ((which spins Counter) which worked perfect. Problem I had if I tried to use the output end of the shaft was a backward thread holding a weird chain sprocket clutch drum.

Pound for pound the chainsaw is no more powerful than a Zen. They sound stronger but a lot of that is in the muffler.

M&D design the motor guys had a 35cc Stihl that they held a couple records with it was a straight forward conversion and had a zenoah pull starter. the finished engine was set up like a Quickdraw with plates and standoffs to mount coils and starter.
you might take a look at the HUSKY 36 i have one thats still in a saw and it screams besides the case is all plastic so the engine is seperate and would make an easy build
