Default Ryobi == Homelite

I just brought a ryobi weedeater for the model boat im building when i was looking in the stores i found that the ryobi and homelite are the same, made and owned by the same company apart from that the ryobi 30cc and homelite is 25cc, is this the same for weedeater sold in the USA.

Has anyone converted a modern ryobi in a RC engine?, the reasion i ask is the pull start is made into the crowling and although there is no real problem with this it makes the engine more bulky.

I dont like the look of the clutch the ryobi came with as it is cheaply stamped out and not well balanced.

I assume it is best to to have the engine sitting as low as possible in a boat for a low centre of gravity and less loss of power on the flex shaft. but the ryobi sits very high.

i guess i could go to the hassle of custom modifying the crowling etc but that would be a lot of work. what do you suggest?

this is the model i brought

Default RE: Ryobi == Homelite

They are very similar, but not 100% the same. Yes, Homelite makes a 30cc; in fact I just purchased a new 30cc Homelite leaf blower. I think the Ryobi engine only used 2 bolts to hold the cylinder on and has a few other minor differences, but I think the pipes and headers and so forth for a Homie should fit. The clutch is the same also. I know it looks cheesey, but the one on my engine works quite well.
