Most modders will scribe markings into the case that indicate it was their mod. Its also very easy to see if the intake and exhaust ports have been modded, as well as the transfer ports, crank, and piston.
As far as if you know it makes 6hp or not.... dyno readings are a tool. Its very easy to punch in some numbers and get an inflated HP reading![EEK!](https://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif)
Just like with big motors.... PEAK hp does not mean anything and only win's you dyno contests.

Your best bet is to buy one from someone with a good reputation. There are a few "big names" in the business who either botch a mod job or or how we would say, exaggerate their RPM and HP claims.
From the outside, look for a different from stock carb and a copper gasket around the base of the cylinder instead of the stock paper one.

Ron... not all engine builders use a copper gasket. Some machine down the jug itself to get a tighter squish while using a stock gasket.

i was just a whouse hobbies 2 days ago. and watched him mod my motor stock 260 pum reved at 12,400 rpms after mods the motor reved at 14,700 rpms he said it was almost 6hp. he uses a stock base gasket and machined down the bottom of the cyclyinde. he also turned down the piston and did a bunch of porting. the motor was dynoed with a bh hanson black widow dry pipe and a 257 carb with 25-1 mixture. i put it in a 50 bonzi. gpsed at 59mph.

Some stock 260 could output 4hp at 14K rpm, sometimes depends what pipe are you running, I saw a guy toke the pipe off just run the engine with heater only for a minute, wow, the hull was flying...
