I haven't found any problem with auto oiling system, the only thing is that you can't fit one on every boat, some boats don't have the room to put an oil tank or don't have enough stuffing/tubing coming out to install it.

Some are design small enough that the whole system attach's itself directly the stuffing tube but yet again not every boat have enough brass tubing coming out to do so and you don't always have the room to make them long enough.

I have one on my Miami. An old car nitro fuel tank as an oil reservoir. This drip feeds into the prop shaft tube.

Remember to try to find some bio degradeable oil, don't want to do deliberate contamination.

Planning was the right word, I never got round to it. As I have used a teflon liner for the first time I took the advice of a very experienced Swedish racer, I just squirt in some 5-56 oil (like wd40) and run, not let me down yet.
For next year I am thinking of ditching the teflon and going back to either grease or putting a system in and trying something more eco friendly, rape oil maybe.....
PPB, makers of the Drag Cat have this sketch of a system on their site

It is a "total loss" system, the oil goes out the back. The flex windings will draw the oil down the tube.
You can use a length of silicon tube at the engine end if you wish, stick it over the stuffing tube and adjust so it just touches the flex. It should have virtually no drag.
From MTC in Germany you can get a sealed bearing system for the collet, this effectively seals the top end of the flex tube.

I store the flex in automatic transmission fluid between days out so that is soaked into/on the flex and then just some WD40 through the tube that is there for the oiler yes.

cheers mate i store mine in a tube filled with oil apart from on the new boat i generally just regrease it and stick it back in ,with the tube going into the back of the strut itself no water ever gets to it anyway so doubt its ever going to rust even if i dont remove it after each run so its no big deal if i leave it for a day or so which i have done .allways looks as good as new to be honest.
