Going thinner defeats the purpose of the block itself.....to insulate from engine heat. Only "mods" that I know of are to run a tap for a water pump....other than that, leave it alone.

With that being said, would more space help? ie. cooler and more time to atomize ?!?!?

We use the alum. ISO block With teflon gaskets and We found that if you go shorter you gang on the top end but you get less torque and just the opposite if you go longer.
By removing the Teflon gasket on the carb side and replacing it with a regular gasket I shortened mine by 1/8 and it worked great for the setup I was trying to achieve.

Like Bill says, shorter more top end, longer more torque.
M&D makes the shortest one I know of that is dyno proven. Short ones are great for side clearance in riggers and sport hydro's.
Lauterbach makes a longer one for it's 1/5th scale cars.
