Cooper pipes, www.cooperpipes.com has just released a new quiet tuned pipe for those looking for a hot new pipe for their RTR boats.
I'll be the first one to say that the price does seem a little steep for people used to buying others for half the price but if you're looking for an extra edge and a much quieter pipe for your boat, this is one of the ones that I knew about a while ago that are hitting the market.
I'm still waiting to see what the dB levels are and if there is any significant improvement in HP and RPM.

As it looks they say 90DB or low on that. To bad they dont make a tune pipe like the car one I saw and read about?? It had a working exaust pistion inside the tune pipe chamber.Works on back presure.Adds more boost =more power and speeds and performance to the motor.[8D]

So you think that was funny?? gooycheese?? There is such a tune pipe like I was saying. Two local hobby shops told me about it. Ok I read that wrong, most of there tune pipes are 90 or les DB.No tec notes on that new one like ron said. Whats the lowest Db can you run a boat at without losing power and performance?[&:] But I like the bikers saying,Loud pipes save lives!!

eah, seen them before but can't remember the name of them.
It's another one of hose "If thet really worked we'd see a lot more of them" creations.
Please keep this thread on topic as it's not about those other pipes. Thank you.

The point of the quiet pipe is the newish rule in the IMPBA that your boat can not be louder than 92db. As an example, my boat with a MAC normal pipe on it was 94-95db...in short, illegal to run. The CD that pointed out to me how loud my boat is, was pretty kind about it, and let me keep running in the competition as is. But I don't think they will let me come back and run if I don't change something.
Anyhow, I have not looked at the Cooper pipe after hearing their prices. From what I hear they are VERY good pipes...but I could buy 2 pipes and add a silencer for the same price. And...with a silencer I can keep trying other pipes at $30-$40 a piece.
If you got the cash, I think this pipe will be of the same caliber as all cooper pipes (good quality and performance).
I would love to try one of his pipes, but at $67, I will wait for someone else to test it first...

I went the Cooper muffler route for my rigger. The muffler is at the end of a Macs nitro pipe that's connected to a CMB .80. It does a really good job of quieting the engine down. I consider it money well spent, and I agree about the prices of some of the pipes.

86Db over here for racing, and we are not short of power there with good pipes, CMB and Prestwich to name two.
Lot of boat noise can be reduced by careful engine mount selection and fitment. Stops an awful lot of "drumming".
Piper Chuck got that right about loud pipes looseing water. It is getting more and more difficult here to find somewhere to run.

In my Speedmaster 21, now in the hands of Gooey Cheese ran 87 dB all day long ands in an area where the sound reflected. I really wouldn't be surprised if this pipe is quieter than 90dB.
That pipe is an Irwin which Cooper bought the inboard pipe business from.
Some of the "A" SAW boats have been using the Irwin/Cooper 21 S (short) pipe for a while. I think that you'll end up by seeing this pipe more on .21 'riggers and some monos, possibly even on Sport 20's.

There WAS a pipe like that, it was CVEC but they seem to have lost the battle. They had excellent reviews with the RC Truck and Car people, and was adjustable using a series of discs, like a SuperTrap muffler on motorcycles. I think a combination of high cost and lack of user abilities killed them.
Quiet Pipes Save Rights - I am all for it if it means saving ponds...but if it was my earth I would have the drill out...LOL.

Andy Brown was talking about coming out with a pipe for a few years now. It seems that he may be getting closer to producing one also.
I'm not holding my breath on his proposed A/A .12 engine either that he was working on. He did have a prototype running but said that it ran a little hot pushing 70% through it. It was basically a downsized .21 MAC.
If you think that the Copper is pricey, imagine what a billet aluminum pipe would cost!

Beaver Boy ordered on earlier this week. We know his MV w/AQ 18 & MAC 2.5 pipe will run 42MPH. If the weather improves later next week, and the pipe arrives, we'll probably go test it out.

I've had 3 Irwin (now Cooper) pipes and loved them so this one has to be a good one but like I said earlier it's going to give the RTR boaters sticker shock but for us others we're used to those price tags for a quality part.

Does anyone know if the new Cooper pipe will fit in the MV hull....OR...do you know of any aftermarket .15-.20 pipe that will work well in the MV?

This one is supposed to fit in the Aquacraft boats but can't say absolutely for sure.
There is one being made that I do know of that will be made for them but when it will come out, I can't say (because I don't know) as the prototypes are hand-made and the production ones will probably be slightly different. I can't release the persons name either right now but I did have one of his pipes and it is nice plus very quiet on the water.

The MAC 2.5 pipe works well on the MV with stock Aqua 18. Needs an after-muffler to reduce the noise. We'll see if the Cooper works better when I get it into the water. Pretty cold and nasty weather in the NW right now.

I used an internal stinger on a Mac's 2.5 pipe and it helped. I had to drill the stinger out a little to get a piece of brass tubing in there and JB Welded it into place. The tubing has to be run in as far as where the divergent/convergent parts of the pipe meet or in order words, the fat part of the pipe. I'm thinking that I used 5/16" OD tubing.
