exhaust throttle? INfo
Just for my INfo as I do not understand the concept, How does an exhaust throttle work on an INboard engine. I have an OPS 60 and I am having Carb problems So I have this Exhaust Throttle to use But dont understand it.
ANy INfo would be appreciated, Thank you.

RE: exhaust throttle? INfo
Hi Jeff,
Basically, the engine is tuned to constanly run wide open, and the exhaust throttle chokes off the air comming out of the engine to slow it down.
Instead of a carb choking off the air going into the engine, the exhaust throttle chokes off the air flowing through the engine. They usually are reserved for racing, because the fuel/air mixture is not metered like a carb would take care of it, and they do not like to idle very long without the engine flooding out because of this.
The standard carb can be left on and just wired wide-open, but usually the exhaust throttle is paired with just a venturi and a needle to replace the carb assembly.

If you are having trouble with your carb and want to replace it with a better one check out Aeromarine Laminates. They have competition carbs (and replacent parts for your OPS 60)

Hi Jeff,
An added benefit to exhaust throttles is it allows you to experiment with different size venturi's and spray bars because of their simplicity, if you or a buddy have a lathe you can turn out a few, maybe with a larger bore, more performance on the top end- however you will make some sacrifices on the bottom end, anyway just some ideas, take care.
