Default BGX-1 Turning a 4 Blade Prop

I have a OS BGX-1 engine and I am wondering who has any experience with this engine and using a 4 blade propeller. More specifically, I am wondering if this engine can turn a 24-12” 4 blade prop at about 6000 rpm or higher.

Thanx, Mark

You're not going to get the answer you want here, which isn't any different than the answer you got in the glow engine forum. A 35cc glow engine will not turn a 4-blade 24x12 prop worth beans. End of story. An 85cc engine will struggle to do so! You're asking a 35cc engine to do a 100cc engine's job. Do what most guys do - put the 24x12 4-blade on it to show it and use a 2-blade to fly it.

I thought everyone was.

There's a reason not a lot of people use the engine you have. Probably the same reason(s) that nobody stocks the engine anymore. Usually a pretty good sign you're going down the path much less traveled.

Nothing wrong with the BGX-1 as long as it is running the correct prop. It just didn't catch on very well because of the cost of operation. I would burn a gallon of glow fuel each outing with mine. I was running PM YS 20/20 through it so each flying session was costing 25.00. I started out with an 18X10 Menz Ultra prop and it flew great but I needed more ground clearance and went to a CF Mej 16X10 3 blade prop. This was on an old ISC 72" Extra. If I was doing a warbird with a max weight of 15-16 lbs with the BGX I would prop for flight with an 18X8. IMO if you must fly with 4 blade prop then the BGX is not going to cut it. Bolt in a DLE55 or DA60. Check the Troy built models website for 4 blade props. Lots of good information on that site.

the 15.5x12 four blade from APC will work well on the engine but not well in a plane. Like speed said run the 18x8 on the warbird. The TBM site does have some 3 and 4 blade props but if you run the beila props then will have to drop down even farther in size as they really load an engine down.

Based on eveyone's comments I'm convinced the BGX-1 will not do the job. I am looking at using an electric motor setup.

Thanx, Mark
