Default TG7000 Heading lock gyro on raptor 30 question.

I was hovering today a little with my raptor, having extreme heading lock trouble. then i realized the gyro wasnt working so i brought it home and read the instructions. i put it onto heading lock mode (it was on normal) but the servo doesn't center. is this because there is no tail imput to tell the gyro what to do because there was no power to the main rotor? Or is there something wrong with my gyro?

I hope that made sense...

That sounds right, the servo won't center in heading hold. You always set your heli/gyro up in normal mode, once you have it setup in normal mode you
should have no problems when you switch into heading hold. Your heli should hold "pretty much" the same in normal mode as it does in heading hold.

The servo doesn't center because the helicopter is sitting still, therefore it doesn't do what the gyro told it to so the gyro holds the pitch patiently waiting for the tail to move.

Pick it up and turn the tail, you will see the servo follow (as it would in flight)

Ok, thanks. It works now. In normal mode it didnt hold at all! The tail drifts back and forth very slowly, is that normal too? or do i need to turn my gain up/down... and which one. the instructions say nothing of this. (This heli is my first with a belt driven tail)

also, someone told me that heading lock shoudl only be used in aerobatics, is that true? I've been using heading lock on my SR for everything.

If its drifting turn up the gain a little.

I use heading hold all the time, 3D, scale, whatever. Many new gyros don't even have rate mode.

So I need to increase my gain? It isn't drifting.... Just drifting back and forth very slowly. It stops in forward flight.
