Default Arkbird Tiny flight controller

I have an Arkbird Tiny flight controller and their documentation is sad, to say the least. The manual says they have three cpu assisted flight modes - Balance, Gyro and 3D or Hover mode. And that's about all they tell you. What is the difference between these three modes? I can guess just about as well as anyone else here, so I don't really need any guesses. What I would like to have is some real knowledge. It will be used in an airplane, NOT a heli or quad.

BTW, this is the non-gps version, so it doesn't have RTH or fencing.
