If it is overheating and shutting off it is, by definition, NOT running perfectly.
You say it is tuned properly, I'll bet it's not. It sounds like you're running way too lean on the hsn. Probably the lsn too.
You could also have an air leak contributing to the overheating.
DO NOT buy a new cooling head until you figure out why the engine is overheating. A new, more efficent cooling head will only mask your problem and in all likelyhood cause you to destroy your engine.

Overheating is almost always caused one thing.
Running lean.
Running lean is almost always caused by one of two things.
#1 - an air leak and people have already told you where to look and what to do for that.
#2 - Improper tuning but hey, that's perfect, right?

The only other things I can think of off hand are
Constant running in very tall grass or loose sand, Something causing extra drag on the engine - like, say, a broken clutch and running fuel with a very high oil content (above 16%).

I'll say again, you're probably tuned too lean and you probably have an air leak and don't get a new head before you fix this problem or you will ruin this engine.
Good Luck.

Don't feel bad, have had the same problem since it was new and that was 4.5 gallons ago. Mine does it after a few wide open passes. What is your engine temp, mine is over 325 degress [with plenty of blue smoke] when it quits. I just run the truck in a smaller area and limit the WOT and all is fine. Quit a few peaple have tried a lot of different things to the truck, copper ATV, different fuel tank, changed the lines, changed carb and incredible amount of retuning but it never changed. We even tried without the body and it still does it so in my opinion you will have to change your driving habits or buy a different motor. Good luck!

and from what I know about nitro engines, Smoke doesn't tell you squat. Some fuels smoke more than others depending on amount of oil in them. So don't gauge your engine on whether there is blue smoke or not.

My 2.5 did the same thing, it is the cooling head it is to small. I got a larger cooling head and it ran great. The 2.5 is a high performance motor traxxas made a flaw with the the small head. It needs a head like is on the 3.3 now. If yopu look at the 2.5 and how it sealed up with the 0 rings I doubt it is a air leak it is one of the best sealed motors I have seen.

Odd, neither of mine overheat when they're tuned properly.
But do whatever you want. It's your motor and your money.
