Default RE: T-Maxx 2.5?

I love my 2.5 t-maxx, but honestly, I wouldn't recommend one now that the Revo is out. It's worth the extra $$$ to get a revo. As for picking between a 2.5 and a 2.5r maxx, I'm not sure. The engine alone isn't worth much as the 2.5 and 2.5R are very close to the same engine (with no significantly noticeable performance difference) , and as far as the driveline differences, I would sort of lean away from the optidrive, but it can be ripped out. IMO the nicest thing about the r over the standard 2.5 is the revo tranny (minus the optidrive), and the sealed shaft ends (read "dust boots").

If I were looking for another traxxas MT it would have to be the revo (as much as I love my maxx). They handle much much better than a maxx in stock form and they seem to be a wee bit more bulletproof straight out of the box.

All that being said, the nicest thing about the maxx is the unmatched variety of upgrades, and mods that you can do to customize and improve it. The flat plate chassis gives you great flexibility to rearrange components and add new items without having to worry a whole lot about figuring out where to fit things (as long as you have a drill and a coutersink bit you can put whatever you want wherever you want) Also, you will be hard pressed to find the same level of after-market parts support you get for the t-maxx with any other MT. When you find a "weak link" part that keeps breaking, you will generally have a variety of upgrade options available with a very wide price range (from low-cost nearly indestructible plastics form RPM up to ridiculously expensive titanium parts from UE)

Please bear in mind that the opinions above are based on a ton of experience with a t-maxx as an owner, and a relatively limited ammount of time driving and working on Revo's for friends.

I guess in my mind it comes down to this: If you want a great performer for both bashing and track time straight out of the box, then the Revo is th way to go. If you want a more moderately priced platform that you can modify, tinker with and customize then the t-maxx may be a better choice.
